Airport: Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria (LPA) — between Telde and Ingenio
Distance to Maspalomas: 25 km (GC-1 motorway)
Bus 66: from €3.90 — approx. 45-60 min
Taxi: approx. €38-45 — approx. 25-30 min
Car rental: from €15/day — approx. 25 min
Private transfer: from €45 — approx. 25 min, fixed price
Option 1: Bus 66 — the cheapest choice
Global bus line 66 runs directly from the airport to Maspalomas. The stop is outside the terminal building, exit level 0. The bus takes the GC-1 motorway and stops at several points in the south: San Agustin, Playa del Ingles (Centro Comercial Anexo II) and Faro de Maspalomas.
Travel time: 45-60 minutes depending on traffic and stops.
Price: €3.90 per person (2026). Pay cash to the driver or use the TransGC card (10% discount). Children under 4 travel free.
Frequency: Every 20-30 minutes daily from approx. 6:30am to 10pm. Late evening and night: line 91 (night bus) runs less frequently.
Tip: The bus has luggage compartments, but during peak times (Friday/Saturday afternoons) it can get crowded. Board early if travelling with large suitcases.
Option 2: Taxi — comfortable and direct
Taxis queue directly outside the arrivals terminal. The drive to Maspalomas takes 25-30 minutes via the GC-1. There is an official fixed-rate tariff from the airport to the south.
Price: Approx. €38-45 depending on exact destination (Playa del Ingles slightly cheaper, Meloneras slightly more). Surcharges: night (10pm-6am) approx. 20%, Sundays/holidays approx. 10%, oversized luggage €1-2/piece.
Tip: Always ensure the meter is running. Official taxis are white with a green light on the roof. Do not accept unofficial offers inside the terminal.
For groups: A large taxi (up to 6 passengers) costs approx. €50-60 — significantly cheaper than two regular taxis.
Option 3: Car rental — flexible and independent
All major rental companies are at the airport: Cicar (local, recommended), Europcar, Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Goldcar. Desks are in the arrivals area, vehicles on parking deck P1.
Price: From €15/day for a small car (Cicar, Fiat Panda or similar). During peak season (Easter, summer, Christmas) €25-40/day. Booking early saves significantly.
Drive to Maspalomas: 25 minutes via the GC-1 southbound. Exit at San Agustin/Playa del Ingles or Maspalomas depending on your hotel.
Tip: Cicar is the local market leader with the best conditions (full insurance with zero excess included). Book online at cicar.com — counter prices are higher. Refuel before return at the Repsol station directly outside the airport.
Parking: Most hotels in Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles have their own parking (free or €5-8/day). Meloneras has a public car park on the boulevard.
Option 4: Private transfer — comfort at a fixed price
Several companies organise private transfers from the airport to your hotel. The driver waits with a name sign at the exit, helps with luggage and drives directly to your accommodation.
Price: From €45 for 1-3 passengers, from €55 for 4-6 passengers. Fixed price, no surcharges.
Providers: HolidayTaxis, Shuttledirect, GetTransfer, or bookable directly through your hotel. Many 4-5 star hotels in Meloneras offer their own shuttle service.
Tip: Particularly worthwhile for families with children and lots of luggage, or for late arrivals after 10pm when buses run less frequently.
Which option suits whom?
Budget travellers / backpackers: Bus 66 (€3.90)
Couples without luggage stress: Taxi (€40)
Families / groups: Private transfer (from €45) or large taxi
Flexible / car rental planned anyway: Car rental (from €15/day)
Late arrival after 10pm: Taxi or private transfer (buses run infrequently)
Good to know
Cash withdrawal: ATMs are in the arrivals area (Bankinter, CaixaBank). Exchange rates at airport counters are poor — use your card at the ATM and select "without conversion".
SIM card: The airport shop sells prepaid SIMs from Movistar and Vodafone (from €10 with 5GB data). EU citizens have roaming — your home SIM works as usual.
Luggage storage: The airport has no official lockers. For day-trippers, Lockbox services are available in Las Palmas.
