On 6 March 2025, rescue workers found a body in the Barranco de El Berriel, a deep ravine in the south of Gran Canaria. The location was so remote that the body had to be recovered by Guardia Civil helicopter. The woman was half-naked — wearing only a T-shirt. Who she was would remain a mystery for more than a year.

Now, in April 2026, the case is officially closed. The dead woman was Annabella Lovas, 32, a Hungarian influencer and former participant on the Hungarian dating show A Nagy Ő. How she ended up in that ravine — and why — remains unknown.

Missing, found, missing again

The story begins in November 2024, when Annabella Lovas was reported missing in Hungary. A month later, in December 2024, authorities tracked her down to an apartment on Gran Canaria — alive. She told them she was fine and did not want contact with her family. The case was closed.

Two days later, she cut off all contact.

In February 2025 she was reported missing again. On 6 March 2025 her lifeless body was found in the Barranco de El Berriel. But even that did not bring resolution: the identity of the dead woman remained unknown. In October 2025, her TikTok profile was reactivated — apparently automatically — and police removed her from the missing persons database, not yet knowing she was already dead.

An identification that seemed almost impossible

The identification process was extraordinarily difficult. The body was heavily decomposed, the fingertips dissolved — no usable fingerprints. No bag or documents were found near the body. Investigators contacted dozens of accommodation providers and tattoo parlours, as her tattoos were known. DNA samples were sent to Hungary twice — both times without a usable result, the quality being too poor.

In the end, it was a single tooth that provided the answer. Through international forensic cooperation, her identity was finally confirmed beyond doubt.

Pablo Fernández Sala, head of the Policía Nacional in Maspalomas, captured the strangeness of the case in one sentence: "A half-naked dead woman in a place you cannot reach — that in itself is a mystery."

A woman between illness, wandering and destitution

Who was Annabella Lovas? In Hungary she was known as an influencer and had appeared on A Nagy Ő, a Hungarian dating show. She had survived a serious cancer diagnosis, which according to investigators also affected her mental health. After her illness she began travelling and eventually made her way to Spain.

Authorities had classified her as a "vulnerable person." Investigators believe she may have become homeless or destitute in her final weeks — a fate that is not uncommon for people in mental health crises on the Canary Islands.

Exactly how she ended up in the Barranco de El Berriel is unclear. The autopsy was inconclusive. Foul play has been officially ruled out. Accident or suicide cannot be excluded. Investigators also consider that the severe floods of February 2025 may have washed her body into the ravine — which would mean she died somewhere else entirely. Check the current weather on Gran Canaria before exploring the island's ravines and beaches, where conditions can change rapidly.

The case is closed — the questions are not

In April 2026, her identity was officially confirmed. Her family has been informed. The case is closed.

What remains is a story that raises many questions — about a young woman who set out to find something after a serious illness, and who in the end could only be identified by a single tooth. About an island governed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria (Cabildo) that is sold as paradise and where people in crisis can vanish without trace. And about the limits of forensic science when identity itself begins to decay.
