The highlight of the weekend: Arucas opens its Fiestas de San Juan
The strongest date this weekend is in the north. On Friday evening Arucas opens its Fiestas Patronales de San Juan Bautista — and it begins at 8 pm on Plaza de San Juan, in front of the neo-Gothic church, with the reading of the pregón. This year it is delivered by Víctor Batista Velázquez, introduced by Paula Robles García and Andrea Concepción Rey.
Straight afterwards the Gran Canaria Big Band plays the concert «Arucas en el Corazón», with Belinda Falcón, Guillermo Segura, Isabel Padrón, Isabel Pönicke and Roberto Santana. Open air, free entry, a mild early-summer evening when the whole town comes to the square — the real opening moment of a fiesta month that runs into July.
If you are planning the weekend: the central events take place around Plaza de San Juan in the historic centre, less than half an hour from Las Palmas. And while Arucas celebrates tradition by day, the club night carries on in the capital and the south after dark.
Friday 5 June
Opening of the Fiestas de San Juan, Arucas. At 8 pm the pregón is read on Plaza de San Juan, followed by the Gran Canaria Big Band concert «Arucas en el Corazón» (see above). Open air, free entry.
Candlelight at the Gabinete Literario, Las Palmas. By candlelight in the historic Gabinete, a string quartet plays two programmes: Vivaldi's «Four Seasons» at 7.30 pm and a tribute to the film scores of Hans Zimmer at 9.30 pm. Around 60 minutes each, doors 45 minutes before. Tickets via Fever.
Encuentro de Bandas, Centro Cultural de Maspalomas. In the south, Friday opens San Bartolomé de Tirajana's June programme with a concert bringing together three bands — the Banda de Maspalomas, Sol y Arena and the Banda Barahona Lomo Blanco. Free entry with prior registration; tickets at the cultural centre box office.
In Las Palmas the club night begins in parallel — the bars in Vegueta and along the Santa Catalina axis fill up, and in the south the drag shows run at the Yumbo. The addresses are below.
Saturday 6 June
Baile del Maúro, Arucas. At 8 pm Plaza de San Juan becomes a dance floor for traditional Canarian music — with the groups Cabuqueros, Ende cuando no Salimos, Gánigo, Herencias, Manantial and La Goleta plus the Escuelas Artísticas Municipales. Come dressed to dance; Canarian food is served on the square.
By day Arucas runs the Feria del Deporte from 10 am at the Complejo Deportivo Antonio Afonso Moreno, with the Gala del Deporte in the evening at the Pabellón Olímpico; the «Opportunus» dance piece by the Escuelas Artísticas is at 6 pm at the Nuevo Teatro Viejo, free entry until full.
Saturday carries the strongest club night of the week — in Las Palmas and in the Yumbo Centre. Where, is below.
Sunday 7 June
Fiesta de la Alfombrada, Arucas. From early morning, flower and salt carpets are laid through the historic centre, with balconies, windows and altars decorated. At noon Plaza de San Juan hosts the Certamen de Vestimenta Tradicional, the traditional-dress contest, organised by the Agrupación Folklórica Herencias.
The close comes at 9 pm with the parranda Los Granjeros de Montaña Cardones on Plaza de San Juan — Canarian folklore to round off the weekend.
Luz Casal, Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. On Sunday evening at 7 pm one of the great voices of Spanish pop gives the island's standout concert of the weekend — Luz Casal presents her new album «Me voy a permitir» at the Alfredo Kraus, part of the Mar Abierto festival, which reaches its twentieth edition in 2026. The concert has been sold out for weeks.
Otherwise Sunday on Gran Canaria traditionally belongs to the seafront promenade and the chiringuitos. In the south, though, the Yumbo Centre takes no break — the drag shows run on Sunday evening too, as do the live music bars along the coast.
Las Palmas: the clubs
Las Palmas weekend nightlife spreads across three districts. In Vegueta and Triana, the old town, the bars around Calle Mendizábal, Plaza de Santa Ana and the Monopol terraces fill up from late evening — on a public holiday weekend earlier than usual. The best-known venue in the quarter is Alboroto at Calle Remedios 10 — a club hall with its own outdoor patio, capacity around 400. Add La Biblioteca Vegueta — a disco in library surroundings — and for the quieter cocktail the rooftop La Azotea de Benito on Plaza de las Ranas.
Along Playa de las Canteras the nightlife runs by the water. The Moma Club is the address for electronic music and techno with an alternative crowd — open until 6 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Add the beach terrace bars along the promenade, such as the open-air Tao terrace in Garden City with commercial music.
The third hub is Santa Catalina and the port area — a dense run of bars, discotecas and clubs going until dawn. The club Fortuni draws the younger going-out crowd here, Thursday to Saturday from 11 pm to half past five. Few venues charge entry.
The south: Yumbo, CC Cita and the lifestyle scene
In the south, the Yumbo Centre is the island's best-known going-out strip: four storeys, largely LGBTQ+ but open to everyone. Its signature is the drag shows — every evening, all weekend: at Ricky's Cabaret Bar (show at 10.30 pm), Sparkles Show Bar (karaoke from 9 pm, drag show from 11 pm), at Chez Funny Boy's, Buddies, Centre Stage and Terry's. The evening starts on the terraces — Spartacus, Eiffel, Voulez Vous, Gran Café Latino, Adonis — and after midnight the dance venues take over: Mykonos, Tubos, Coco Loco and Mantrix until 6 am. For commercial charts, the neighbouring Kasbah Centre fits the bill.
In the heart of Playa del Inglés, just steps from the Yumbo, lies the CC Cita — the centre of the lifestyle and swingers scene of Playa del Inglés and a destination in its own right for many guests. In the basement: Swingers Club Secret (large, Reggaeton and Spanish House, over 500 people) and Fun4all (more relaxed, several playrooms, BDSM room). Also in the building: HOTSPOT, Comeback Bar, Plan B, Tantra and Majestic GC (also Mario's Bar). In the adjacent CC Sandía: 2x2 Swingers Club. Age verification required.
The cruise and darkroom scene concentrates around the Yumbo: Cruise Bar (since 1994), Tom's Cruising Bar, Strong Construction and NOXON (fetish/cruising, first floor). Nearby: The Factory and Zoo Men's Cruising Bar. Sauna: Sauna Enjoy Maspalomas on Avenida de Tirajana.
Live music runs through the south: Tipsy Hammock Bar (Paseo Costa Canarias, until 2 am), Cafe Mozart 2 and Al's Bar in Gran Chaparral Centre, Dunes & Tunes along the beachfront and Cafe del Mar Meloneras at Plaza del Faro.
