Maspalomas Pride celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2026 from 4 to 10 May 2026. That was the official message on the Freedom Asociación LGBT organiser website (Maspalomas Pride). What stood underneath it was the second story: the edition was cut from 11 to 7 days. This was not a programme optimisation, but a forced reduction.

Festival Director Fernando Ilarduya justifies the cut in the official statement with two financial factors: the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has failed to pay agreed subsidies for four years. The Canarian government “unjustifiably” withdrew funding for the 2025 edition. The organiser speaks of accumulated debts from the past five years, without naming a concrete sum. The motto of the anniversary edition was “Nuestra historia, su legado, nuestro orgullo” — our history, their legacy, our pride.

When did Maspalomas Pride 2026 take place?

Maspalomas Pride 2026 ran officially from Monday 4 May 2026 to Sunday 10 May 2026. The main venue was Plaza de Yumbo / Pride Park in the Yumbo Shopping Centre in Playa del Inglés, San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The pool parties were spread across Hotel AxelBeach Maspalomas, Ocean Club Maspalomas, Sala Oasis Gran Canaria and Seven Hotel & Wellness.

The Pride Parade took place on Saturday 9 May 2026. Meeting point was Hotel Riu Palace Maspalomas at 16:00. The route ran along Avenida de Tirajana and Avenida de Gran Canaria and ended at Avenida de España, at the main entrance of Yumbo.

The organiser was Freedom Asociación LGBT based in Maspalomas, the director was Fernando Ilarduya. The official opening with reading of the Pregón and the Manifesto took place on the first day in the Pride Park. The Pregonero person for the 25th edition had not been publicly announced by the organiser as of 21 October 2026.

The next major date in Maspalomas is Winter Pride from 2 to 8 November 2026; the star nights at the Yumbo Centre are covered in Yumbo from 4 November: La Voix, Anita Doth, Tara McDonald.

Why was the festival cut to 7 days?

The financial crisis of organiser Freedom Asociación LGBT is, in Ilarduya's words, “unsustainable”. The official statement of the Asociación documents three concrete points:

The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana under Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez (PP-AV, coalition with Coalición Canaria) owes the organiser four years of subsidies. Freedom does not specify amounts in its public statement. The municipality is at the same time the festival's main tourism beneficiary — hotel occupancy in southern Gran Canaria reached up to 97 percent during Pride in previous years.

The Canarian Government withdrew the funding promised for 2025. The justification, according to the organiser, was not “plausible”. The Cabildo Gran Canaria itself, led by Cabildo President Antonio Morales (Nueva Canarias), with Carlos Álamo as Tourism Counsellor, remains a partner of the festival.

The private sector is also described by the organiser as insufficiently engaged — “falta de compromiso institucional y privado”, institutional and private failure together.

The direct consequence: instead of 11 days, it was 7. Instead of full programme depth, according to the organiser the programme was compacted such that all contracts with artists and suppliers were honoured “in the spirit of responsibility”.

What programme highlights does 2026 offer?

The compacted programme 2026 distributed 7 festival days across the Pride Park at the Yumbo and the four pool party hotels. The central events were:

Monday 4 May — Opening. Olé! Spanish Pool Party at Hotel AxelBeach Maspalomas, 13:00 to 20:00. Evening: POPera Party at the Pride Park.

Tuesday 5 May — Carrera de Tacones (high-heel race) on Plaza de Yumbo, 19:30. Evening: Tuesday Pride Night Live with Flamenco Fuego, Matthew Joseph, Neo Pinto.

Wednesday 6 May — Wet & White Party at Amadores Beach Club, one of the largest pool parties of the week.

Thursday 7 May — Wet & Hairy (Bear Pool Party) at Hotel AxelBeach. FREEDOM Party Dirty West at Sala Oasis Gran Canaria. Evening at the Pride Park: Thursday Pride Night Live with Drag Race competition.

Friday 8 May — Sundance The Next Level at Ocean Club Maspalomas with Soraya. Lady's Pool Party — the official lesbian party. Evening: Friday Pride Night Live with Agoney and Louis III, Freedom Awards ceremony.

Saturday 9 May — Main parade from 16:00. Followed by FREEDOM PRIDE Party with DJs Jose Lagares, Sergio Tyler, Melques Viber. Artist: Rebeka Brown.

Sunday 10 May — FREEDOM Ice Cream Pool Party at Seven Hotel & Wellness. Evening: Sunday Night Pride Closing Show at Pride Park.

The Pregón and Manifesto are traditionally read by the organiser at the start of the festival in three languages — Spanish, English, German. The reading is broadcast live via the festival's official YouTube and Instagram channels.

What is the Eurovision Pride and when does it take place?

Directly after Maspalomas Pride a new independent festival started: the Eurovision Pride, from 14 to 17 May 2026, also at the Yumbo Shopping Centre. The organiser is again Freedom Asociación LGBT under Fernando Ilarduya.

The concept: a 60-square-metre LED screen on Plaza de Yumbo broadcast the semi-finals and the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. Added to this are live performances, themed galas with Eurovision hits from the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s, plus two exclusive pool parties at Ocean Club Maspalomas and Seven Hotel & Wellness.

With two festivals in the same month, Maspalomas became the only European destination with two major Pride events in May 2026. Fernando Ilarduya describes the idea: the Eurovision Pride should connect “the spirit of Eurovision” with the Pride spirit. Antonio Morales as Cabildo President publicly supported the initiative at its presentation in October 2025.

How to get there and where to book?

Travel to Maspalomas is via Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), about 25 kilometres from the Yumbo. From the airport, Bus line 66 runs hourly to Faro de Maspalomas (Aena). The Yumbo Shopping Centre is in Playa del Inglés, walkable from most LGBTQ+ hotels.

The main Pride hotels: AxelBeach Maspalomas (pool parties, Bear Carnival), Ocean Club Maspalomas (Sundance Pool Party), Sanom Beach Resort (adults-only, 5 min walk to Yumbo), Seven Hotel & Wellness (pool parties, Closing Day). Hotel occupancy reached 97 percent peaks in 2024 according to the organiser.

The pool parties required tickets, evening events at the Pride Park were mostly free. Tickets were available via the official organiser website and via third-party providers such as Maspalomas Pride Guide.
