Hidden Gem Brunch in Las Palmas: Mikönica at CC La Minilla Wins Over Locals and Tourists

From Pandemic Dream to Brunch Hotspot

Mikönica was born out of the Covid-19 lockdown. Raúl and Pedro used the enforced downtime to plan the café they had always wanted — sketching floor plans and developing a clear concept: a place that serves brunch all day and transforms into a relaxed bar in the evenings. Roughly a year after opening, the ground-floor café at Centro Comercial La Minilla (La Minilla) has become a firm fixture in the Las Palmas dining scene.

What Is on the Menu

The centrepiece is the all-day brunch — breakfast is served from morning until closing. The menu features açaí bowls, crêpes with pistachio cream, loaded toasts (the signature "Tosta Mikönica" is a favourite), fresh juices and specialty coffee. The standout is the ceremonial matcha: sourced from plantations with at least seven years of maturity and harvested in April. The house recommendation: matcha with coconut milk over mango ice cream.

The sourcing is deliberately local. Mikönica works with island bakeries, the ice cream comes from Canarian artisan maker Helamore, and the juice recipes were developed in collaboration with nutritionist and content creator Sara Baking.

Thursday Tardeo

Come in the evening and you will find a different Mikönica. Every Thursday, the café becomes a tardeo bar — the Spanish concept of "afternoon going-out." Cheese boards, charcuterie, truffle tortilla, bravas, huevos rotos with chistorra and beetroot nachos replace the brunch menu. Wine takes over from coffee.

Why It Is Worth the Trip from Maspalomas

Las Palmas is about 35 minutes by car from the tourist south — or just under an hour by bus (routes 30 or 50 from Maspalomas). Combine a stroll through the old town of Vegueta, a stop at Las Canteras beach and a leisurely brunch at Mikönica for a perfect Sunday outing. The La Minilla shopping centre also offers free parking.
