Monday's golden forecast — what it means for you
After a damp Easter Sunday for parts of northern Gran Canaria — Agaete logged 8 mm of rain, and Teror also saw some drops — Monday 6 April flips completely to blue skies and warmth. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures will reach a comfortable 17–21°C, while inland areas such as Tejeda will bask in up to 25°C. Maspalomas in the south settles at a lovely 22°C.
Wind is light, coming from a northerly direction — pleasant and refreshing, not disruptive. The south coast sea remains calm throughout the day, making it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. A northwest swell of up to 2 m may arrive towards the late afternoon, mainly affecting the exposed northwest-facing beaches.
Beach day? Absolutely — especially in the south
22°C in Maspalomas with a flat sea and wall-to-wall sunshine is hard to argue with. If you're heading to the best beaches on Gran Canaria, Monday is your day. Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, Amadores, Anfi del Mar, Puerto Rico — every southern beach will be in pristine condition. The UV index of 3–4 means you'll catch a tan but should still apply SPF 30 or higher, especially on fair skin and with children.
If you want to avoid the crowds, head to the smaller coves on the southwest coast. With only light northerly winds, even the usually wind-exposed Playa de Maspalomos dune side will feel sheltered and warm.
Hiking, cycling and the great outdoors
Inland Gran Canaria in April is spectacular, and with 25°C at Tejeda and crystal-clear visibility, today is one of the best hiking days of the spring season. The Roque Nublo trail, the Caldera de Bandama circuit and the Barranco de Guayadeque walk all reward with extraordinary views when the air is this clear. Start early (before 10am) to make the most of the cool morning and reach viewpoints before any afternoon haze develops.
Road cyclists will also love Monday — light wind, dry roads and long daylight hours make the Las Palmas–Agaete coast road or the mountain climbs up to Cruz de Tejeda ideal conditions.
Las Palmas city: history, art and sea in one day
At 17–21°C, Las Palmas is perfect for walking. Start in the Barrio de Vegueta, Gran Canaria's cobblestoned historic quarter, visit the Casa de Colón (Christopher Columbus House), then wander north through the city to Playa de las Canteras for a lunchtime swim. The Jardín Canario botanical garden, in bloom throughout April, is worth the short detour inland. Cap the evening with a sundowner on a terrace — temperatures remain pleasant well into the night.
Canary Islands-wide forecast
According to AEMET, Monday's stability extends across the archipelago:
- Gran Canaria (Las Palmas) 17–21°C, sunny, some afternoon cloud in the north
- Gran Canaria (Tejeda / inland) up to 25°C, full sun, outstanding hiking conditions
- Maspalomas / south coast 22°C, calm sea, ideal beach day
- Tenerife Similar stability; northern slopes may see a little cloud
- Fuerteventura / Lanzarote Sunny, wind occasionally stronger — great for kitesurfing
Sun protection: don't be caught out
A UV index of 3–4 may sound mild, but at the latitude of the Canary Islands and with 9–10 hours of direct sun, unprotected skin can burn in 30–40 minutes. Use SPF 50 for children, SPF 30 for adults, and reapply after swimming. For full beach and UV guidance, see our Beaches, UV & Air Quality guide.
Make the most of it — cooler weather returns next week
The AEMET blog warns that Canary Islands temperatures may drop below seasonal norms from 13–19 April. Monday 6 April is therefore part of a narrowing window of warmth — enjoy it while it lasts. Radio Televisión Canaria (RTVC) also confirms stable, settled conditions for the start of the week.
