Volotea pulls Canary Islands routes to France from winter sale
Eleven connections between the Canary Islands and French cities appear to have vanished from Volotea's winter 2026/27 booking system. Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife South and Fuerteventura are all affected — and the routes concerned are precisely the ones linking the islands directly with regional France rather than with Paris alone.

The report comes from the aviation trade press: the Italian industry site italiavola reported on 1 September 2026 that Volotea had removed 32 routes in total from sale for winter 2026/27. No statement from the airline about the Canary Islands routes could be found. That distinction matters: withdrawn from sale is not the same thing as permanently cancelled.
Which routes have gone
According to italiavola, the withdrawals touch four islands. From Lanzarote, four French destinations: Brest, Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Toulouse. From Gran Canaria (Las Palmas), another four: Lille, Lyon, Marseille and Toulouse. From Tenerife South, two: Brest and Bordeaux. From Fuerteventura, one: Bordeaux.
That is eleven island–France city pairs. They form part of a longer list of 32 routes that the report says no longer appear in the winter sale, including purely French and Italian pairings such as Bordeaux–Prague, Lyon–Athens and Rome Fiumicino–Brest. The site describes the cuts as weighted heavily towards the French market, with France–Canary Islands services the most affected group of all.
Removed from sale is not the same as cancelled
The report's wording is specific: the routes are described as closed to sales for winter 2026/27. That is an accurate but limited claim. It establishes that the connections are no longer being offered for booking in that season. It does not establish that Volotea is abandoning them for good.
Many Canary Islands–France services are seasonal by nature. A route absent from the winter 2026/27 sale can reappear in summer 2027 — or not. Until the airline says something itself, that stays open. Findings of this kind normally come from monitoring schedule and booking data rather than from a press release, and they should be read on those terms.
France is Volotea's biggest market
The retreat carries weight because France is no sideshow for Volotea. According to air-journal, citing the airline's own figures, Volotea described France in early 2026 as its first market: roughly 60 per cent of its operations, a target of more than eight million passengers and around nine million seats offered in the country during 2026.
One detail stands out. On 18 December 2025 Volotea announced four new Canary Islands–France routes in a press release: Gran Canaria–Marseille, Gran Canaria–Toulouse and Fuerteventura–Toulouse, all from 7 November 2026, plus La Palma–Nantes from 8 November 2026. Two of them, Gran Canaria–Marseille and Gran Canaria–Toulouse, now appear on the list of routes closed to sales. They would have been withdrawn before ever operating a single flight.
What is left, and who else flies
Not everything disappears. In late August the newspaper La Voz de Lanzarote listed eight French destinations served from Lanzarote: Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Paris and Toulouse. Of those eight, only Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Toulouse appear on the withdrawal list — Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes and Paris do not. La Palma–Nantes and Fuerteventura–Toulouse are likewise absent from it.
Other carriers are also filling gaps. Bordeaux airport announced that easyJet is adding three new direct routes for the 2026/27 winter season, among them Bordeaux–Gran Canaria with two weekly flights, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 28 October 2026. Le Figaro placed that route within a package of nine new easyJet services from France for the winter. Bordeaux therefore loses Volotea's island destinations but gains an easyJet link to Gran Canaria.
What travellers should do now
Anyone already booked for the winter should check their booking in their account and confirm the email address on file. If a flight is cancelled, EU air passenger rights apply: travellers choose between a full refund of the ticket price within seven days and re-routing to their destination. Additional cash compensation is generally not owed if the airline gives notice at least 14 days before departure.
A separate issue is live right now. Unions SNPL, UNAC and SPL called a three-day strike by Volotea's France-based pilots for 4, 5 and 6 September 2026, reported to be over pay and working conditions. Flights operated from the French bases of Bordeaux, Brest, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Strasbourg and Toulouse may be disrupted. Reporting does not establish any link between the strike and the winter withdrawals.

FAQ
- Are these flights cancelled for good?
- That is not established. The trade report says the routes were removed from sale for winter 2026/27. Whether they disappear permanently or return in summer 2027 remains open.
- Has Volotea commented?
- No statement from the airline about the Canary Islands routes is available. The information comes from monitoring schedule and sales data, picked up by the trade press.
- I already booked a winter flight — what happens?
- Existing bookings do not lapse automatically. If Volotea cancels, EU rules give you the choice between a full refund within seven days and re-routing; compensation is usually not due when notice is given at least 14 days ahead.
- Does Lanzarote keep its French links?
- La Voz de Lanzarote listed eight French destinations served from the island. Three of them are on the withdrawal list; Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes and Paris are not named there.
- Are there alternatives from Bordeaux?
- Yes for Gran Canaria: Bordeaux airport announced easyJet flights from 28 October 2026, twice weekly. No direct replacement is known for Bordeaux to Fuerteventura, Lanzarote or Tenerife South.
