What changes for travellers in the Canary Islands?
In the short term, nothing changes for passengers: Binter has not published any new routes, schedules, fares or booking rules. Discounts, entry requirements and deadlines also remain unchanged.
The nine jets are due to be delivered gradually from 2027. After that, Binter wants to create additional capacity above all on inter-island connections at the busiest times of day.
For holidaymakers and residents, that means more seats on heavily booked flights in the medium term. Whether individual connections will become more frequent, more reliable or cheaper has not yet been decided, according to the statement of 5 October 2026.
Which aircraft is Binter financing?
The aircraft being financed are the Embraer E195-E2, the largest model in the E-Jets E2 family from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer. According to Binter, the type stands out for its high efficiency and comparatively low emissions.
Binter also highlights the generous seat pitch.
Once all deliveries are complete, Binter will have a total of 25 aircraft of this type.
Who is financing the purchase?
The financing was agreed with a banking syndicate made up of Banco Santander, CaixaBank and BBVA. According to Binter, the agreement provides the financial basis for the fleet expansion of the coming years.
It was signed by Binter's president Rodolfo Núñez and vice-president Alfredo Morales with the three banks. The airline says it was supported by the consultancy firms Deloitte and KPMG.
No details of interest rate, term, collateral or equity share have been published. Based on the information available, this is a private-sector, bank-financed investment.
What goals is Binter pursuing with the fleet?
Binter president Rodolfo Núñez said the new aircraft should help to ensure the best possible air connections for the Canary Islands within and beyond the archipelago. He stressed the public service role that Binter fulfils with its route network.
A key goal is the expansion of the air hub between the Canary Islands and Africa. Binter also plans to expand the use of the E195-E2 on connections between the Canary Islands.
Vice-president Alfredo Morales thanked the banks for their confidence. The financing would allow Binter to expand its flight offering to ever more destinations while retaining the airline's characteristic features.
What is still open?
Binter has not published a precise delivery schedule. The individual destination routes, the start of additional flights and the seat capacity per aircraft have also not been stated separately.
The next confirmed step is the staggered aircraft deliveries from 2027. Binter has not given an exact date for the first handover or specific changes to the flight schedule.
What does this mean for Fuerteventura and the other islands?
The fleet expansion could also be significant for travellers to and from Fuerteventura. However, the statement of 5 October 2026 does not reveal which specific routes and flight frequencies on Fuerteventura will benefit from the additional aircraft.
For residents, foreigners living on the islands and tourists, the only relevant point for now is a planned medium- to long-term increase in capacity and fleet size from 2027. The statement contains no information about airport closures or restrictions during the fleet transition.
Binter already uses the E195-E2 on selected routes. The new aircraft are intended to provide additional capacity above all where demand is strongest at certain times of day.
