What is the Timple gathering?

The III National Timple Gathering is dedicated to the timple, the small Canarian stringed instrument regarded as part of the musical identity of the Canary Islands. The organiser is the Consejería de Cultura of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, in coordination with the Asociación Nacional del Timple.

The president of the Cabildo, Lola García, said according to the official statement: “Hay instrumentos que hacen música y otros, como es el caso del timple, cuentan historias de un pueblo.” The gathering aims to combine traditional building and playing techniques with contemporary approaches.

The culture councillor Rayco León explained that the timple is one of the most identity-shaping elements of traditional Canarian music. For this reason, spaces for exchange, knowledge sharing and new musical proposals are important.

The Sala Chillida and the Sala Sinfónica are both located in the Palacio de Formación y Congresos. The exact rooms are indicated in the programme.

Do you need to register and what does it cost?

Prior registration is required for the four workshops and masterclasses, as announced by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura. This applies to the workshop on 22 October at 17:00, the two courses on 24 October at 10:00 and 12:00, and the masterclass on 25 October at 17:00.

What should holidaymakers and residents know?

No new rules, fees, closures or other restrictions have been announced for the general public. The gathering is a cultural offer that does not affect normal life in Puerto del Rosario.

According to the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, the full programme should be available via the events agenda at culturafuerteventura.es/agenda-ftv/. Interested visitors can find the individual dates and venues there.

The timple player Domingo “El Colorao” said the gathering should have an impact beyond the four days: “Queremos que el timple llegue a las nuevas generaciones.” Activities are planned in educational centres and with school pupils.

The event series begins on Thursday, 22 October 2026, at 12:00 with the opening. It ends on Sunday, 25 October, at 20:00 with the Trío de Raíz concert.
