Which routes are affected?

The relocation affects routes 1, 8, 10, 11, X11, 17, 80, 82, 84, 91, Luna 2 and Luna 3. They will now use the right-hand side of Avenida Rafael Cabrera between the streets Munguía and Pilarillo Seco, as well as existing stops at Mercado de Vegueta.

Routes 17 and 91 will have their starting stop on Avenida Rafael Cabrera before the junction with Pilarillo Seco. Routes 1, 8, 10, 11, X11, 80, 82, 84, Luna 2 and Luna 3 will pick up passengers at the respective San Telmo stops.

Not verified (retrieved content truncated); stop 895 and the routes of lines 7/54/70 could not be confirmed. Route 64 begins its journey in the loading area of Avenida Rafael Cabrera.

What changes at stop 523?

Routes 9, 12, 25 and Luna 1 will no longer serve stop 523 on Avenida Rafael Cabrera next to the theatre. Passengers on these routes will need to use other stops.

Buses will reach Avenida Rafael Cabrera via Calle Miguel de Cervantes. The previous bus lane will be used for managing the guaguas. The section between Miguel de Cervantes and Munguía will become the alighting area.

Why is the station closing?

Emalsa is responsible for the works. The company is repairing damage to the inlet of the Teatro sewage pumping station caused by Storm Therese.

At the same time, traffic on Avenida Rafael Cabrera is being reorganised. The signage and road layout works are scheduled for the period from 12 to 17 October 2026, each night from 22:00 to 06:00, provided rainfall does not prevent the work.

What does this mean for passengers?

According to the available information, there are no changes for residents, expats and visitors to fares, ticket rules, eligibility conditions or application deadlines. Only stops, departure points and termini are being changed.

Route 54 runs towards Mercado de Vegueta via Bernardino Correa Viera, San Nicolás, Muro and the GC-110 to the new terminus at the market. Routes 7 and 70 run towards El Secadero from Mercado de Vegueta via Avenida Alcalde Díaz Saavedra Navarro, Avenida Marítima del Sur, the San José tunnel and the GC-31.

How is traffic organised?

The mobility plan was drawn up by the Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Emalsa. In the first phase, the works will be concentrated on the area around the station. The reduction from three to two lanes between Miguel de Cervantes and Pilarillo Seco is confirmed.

The second phase (Lentini) could not be confirmed. It brings further effects on traffic and public transport. The specific changes to the affected routes must be announced by Guaguas Municipales and Global.

Until when does the arrangement apply?

Normal operation of Teatro station continues up to and including Sunday 18 October 2026. From Monday 19 October 2026, the temporary closure applies, with operation on Avenida Rafael Cabrera and at Mercado de Vegueta.

A specific date for reopening and the return to the previous route layout remains open. The official notices give no end date for the temporary arrangement and no figure for the repair.

What should passengers do now?

Passengers should check the status of the service and the notices from Guaguas Municipales before travelling. The company publishes the operational changes on its official website.

It is recommended to allow extra time to find the new stops. Anyone travelling from the south of Gran Canaria to Las Palmas and changing at Teatro should pay particular attention to the new route layout.
