What can visitors expect on the first weekend?

24 international short films will be screened on Friday 23 October and Saturday 24 October at the Auditorio de Teror. They were selected from 140 entries, as the Ayuntamiento de Teror reports.

There are two film blocks: 18:00 to 19:30 and 20:00 to 21:30. Tickets are free, and you can reserve through tureservaonline.es.

This year the festival is themed «Mundo Monster». It is a tribute to the classic monsters of horror cinema, as the organisers explain.

How does the 72-hour film-making contest REC72H work?

The teams have 72 hours: the REC72H contest starts on 23 October at 17:30 and ends on 26 October at 17:30. In Teror they must develop, shoot and finish a horror short film of no more than three minutes in that time.

At least 50 percent of the film must be shot at recognisable outdoor locations in the municipality of Teror, as the contest rules require. The historic town centre thus becomes a backdrop in its own right.

The contest offers 2,500 euros in prize money and four trophies.

How much does it cost and how do you get there?

The international screenings on 23 and 24 October are free, with reservations through tureservaonline.es. The REC72H marathon programme on 30 October is also free according to the organisers, partly with a deposit.

For individual activities such as the masterclass or the podcast event, the conditions of the reservation system apply.

Teror is in the north of Gran Canaria, and from the tourist centres in the south you can reach the town by car or regular bus. The organisers do not mention any road closures or access restrictions.

What other programme items are there?

An escape event leads through the historic town centre of Teror on 24 October from 17:00. Participants only need their mobile phone to scan QR codes, and can win 100 euros in prize money.

The Feria del Terror takes place on 24 and 25 October 2026 in the marquee at Plaza de Sintes. According to the organisers, there will be video games, horror books, posters, children's face painting and scary stories.

Director Yaiza Méndez gives a masterclass on psychological horror, the paranormal and suspense on 30 October at 11:00. Participation is free, and can be booked with a deposit through tureservaonline.es.

On 30 October at 20:00 the film «La Cosa en la Niebla» will be screened, followed by a talk with director Chedey Reyes and the audience. The closing gala with the awards begins on 31 October at 19:30 at the Auditorio.

Who is behind the festival?

The Ayuntamiento de Teror organises the festival through its culture and tourism departments. Aguas de Teror supports it, and the youth department is involved.

The international section jury includes actor Ramón Langa, writer and director Yaiza Méndez, and director and producer Chedey Reyes. For REC72H, the judges are screenwriter Aitor Guezuraga, actress Marta Fuenar and artist Coquin Artero.

What is still open?

On the REC72H registration deadline, the sources contradict each other: one media report gives 20 October, another report gives 26 October at 17:30. The primary information does not resolve this contradiction.

The organisers have not yet published an overall budget or itemised municipal subsidies. The final deposit conditions for individual activities also remain open.

The prizes for both contests go to the winners at the closing gala on 31 October 2026 at the Auditorio de Teror. The third edition of the festival then comes to an end.
