Which bus routes run on La Gomera?

GuaguaGomera operates eight routes with a total of 121 stops. The main interchange points are San Sebastián de La Gomera and Vallehermoso.

Route 1 connects Valle Gran Rey with San Sebastián de La Gomera. Route 2 runs from Vallehermoso to San Sebastián, and route 3 from Alajeró to San Sebastián.

Routes 4 and 5 serve the north-west: route 4 runs from Vallehermoso to La Dama, route 5 from Vallehermoso to Alojera. Route 8 connects Vallehermoso with Valle Gran Rey.

Routes 6 and 7 serve La Gomera Airport. Route 6 runs from Valle Gran Rey to the airport, route 7 from San Sebastián to the airport.

How much does the bus cost and how do I pay?

The fare depends on the distance. The exact price for each connection and stop is shown on the official GuaguaGomera website.

Tickets are bought from the driver. Payment can be made in cash or by card, but banknotes over 20 euros are not accepted on the bus.

Children under seven travel free. From the age of seven, the standard fare applies.

For regular journeys there is a transferable credit product called bono monedero. Current fares should be checked immediately before travelling.

How do I get away from La Gomera Airport?

The stop at the terminal is called Aeropuerto. It is served by route 7 and route 6.

Route 7 runs from the airport to San Sebastián de La Gomera. The full fare is about 4 euros.

Route 6 is a long direct connection from the airport to Valle Gran Rey via the interior of the island.

The number of airport services is limited. There is no regular late-evening service, and Sunday and public holiday timetables may be reduced.

When is a taxi or hire car worth it?

Taxis are particularly useful for short journeys within towns, for trips to poorly connected walking car parks and for early or late transfers.

At La Gomera Airport, according to the AENA fare information for tariff 1, a minimum fare of 3.85 euros applies on weekdays from 06:00 to 22:00, plus 1.35 euros per kilometre and 18.50 euros per hour of waiting time. An airport supplement of 2.10 euros applies.

A hire car offers the greatest flexibility in terms of time, especially for remote villages, viewpoints and walking routes with few or no bus connections. The roads are often winding and mountainous.

Before longer taxi journeys, the expected price should be asked from the driver. At the airport, the signposted official taxi rank should be used.

What should I bear in mind when hiring a car?

When hiring, travellers should clarify in advance whether the vehicle may be taken on a ferry and whether fully comprehensive cover and excess are included.

Also to be clarified are the rules for unpaved roads and whether collection at the airport, in San Sebastián or at another location is possible.

For walks, the vehicle should only be left in permitted, safe car parks. Access roads, emergency routes and entrances to protected areas must not be blocked.

In protected areas such as the Parque Nacional de Garajonay, the marked path must not be left. Parking outside authorised areas is not permitted.

How do I get to La Gomera by ferry?

The main ferry connections run from the port of Los Cristianos on Tenerife to San Sebastián de La Gomera. Fred. Olsen Express takes about 45 to 55 minutes, Naviera Armas about 50 minutes.

Both shipping companies also carry vehicles. Timetables and prices are binding only with the respective shipping companies at the time of booking.

There is a bus connection from Tenerife South Airport to the ferry port of Los Cristianos, or a taxi is an alternative. For onward travel, ferry and connection times should be planned with sufficient buffer.
