What does the closure mean for holidaymakers and residents in the south?
For holidaymakers and European residents driving from La Gomera’s southern resorts to the north or to Garajonay National Park, the daily routine will change significantly on both days. Between 07:00 and 13:00 the affected section of the CV-14 will be closed to traffic.
Residents, delivery traffic, hire cars and visitors will need to plan their journeys using alternative roads. The published notice from the Cabildo de La Gomera does not specify any diversion routes.
Anyone heading to Garajonay National Park during these hours should expect disruption. The park authority explicitly draws attention to the full closure on 21 and 22 October from 07:00 to 13:00.
Where exactly is the closure?
The closure affects the island road CV-14, known as the El Rejo road, which runs through the municipality of Hermigua. The closed section lies between the junction with the GM-1 and the point known as Reventón Oscuro.
The work is concentrated on a slope at kilometre 2+300 of the CV-14. A crane is being installed there to lift building materials and equipment.
The CV-14 connects Hermigua with the GM-1 and is an important link in the north of La Gomera. During the closure hours this connection will be interrupted.
Why is the road being closed?
The closure is needed to stabilise an unstable slope. The Cabildo de La Gomera has been carrying out emergency measures there since 22 April 2026.
The crane is required to bring materials and equipment to the slope.
What is the background to the CV-14?
According to Cabildo president Casimiro Curbelo, the road was closed as a result of the weather event “Therese”. A controlled reopening, at least in sections, was only to take place after technical inspections.
As early as March 2026, the Cabildo kept the road closed because of the risk of rockfall and for cleaning work. These measures were part of preventive steps following adverse weather events.
The CV-14 is therefore a route that has been repeatedly affected.
What applies to Garajonay National Park?
Garajonay National Park is reporting disruption linked to the work at El Rejo. Access and through traffic in the park area will be restricted during the closure hours on 21 and 22 October from 07:00 to 13:00.
Visitors to the national park should check the park authority’s notices before setting off and allow extra time.
What remains unclear?
No final completion date for the construction work and no confirmed reopening outside the closure hours have been published. The Cabildo de La Gomera also does not specify any diversion routes or possible further closure days.
It also remains unclear whether there will be changes to bus services or special arrangements for foreign visitors. The published notice contains no information on this.
Work on the CV-14 is continuing. New updates should be checked with the Cabildo de La Gomera and Garajonay National Park.
