How do I get to La Graciosa?

La Graciosa lies off the north coast of Lanzarote and cannot be reached by plane. The island is only accessible by sea; the regular ferries depart from the port of Órzola in the north of Lanzarote. This is confirmed by Turismo Lanzarote on its official information pages.

For travel from the UK, Ireland or other international markets, you fly to César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport (ACE) near Arrecife. From there, continue on Lanzarote's road network to Órzola. The ACE–Órzola route can be covered by hire car, taxi or public transport.

For the specific bus connection and current departure times, travellers should check the official timetables of the responsible transport company. The sources available here do not provide reliable current bus times. The hire car can be parked in Órzola; it is not normally permitted to take it to the island.

Which ferries run from Órzola to La Graciosa?

The crossing starts at Puerto de Órzola and takes roughly 30 minutes. Líneas Marítimas Romero and Biosfera Express operate on the route. Turismo Lanzarote lists several ferry connections per day all year round; according to the tourist information, departures are roughly 30 minutes apart.

The ferries arrive in Caleta de Sebo, the main settlement and most important arrival port on La Graciosa. Tickets are available at the port and online in advance.

A timetable published by Turismo Lanzarote for Romero shows additional departures between 1 July and 31 October. Fewer departures are listed for the rest of the year. The Romero times from Órzola listed there from 1 November to 30 June were 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:30, 16:00, 17:00 and 18:00.

For Biosfera Express, the same document lists departures from Órzola at 08:00, 10:30, 13:00, 16:30 and 18:30, among others, as well as return journeys from La Graciosa at 07:00, 09:30, 11:30, 15:30 and 17:30. These published times should not be treated as a permanently binding timetable for 2026.

How much does the ferry to La Graciosa cost?

The prices published on the official Romero fares page for 2025 are as follows: adults aged 12 and over, non-residents, pay 15.00 euros for a single journey. Children under 12, non-residents, pay 8.00 euros or 15.00 euros.

Reduced fares apply for Canary Island residents: adults aged 12 and over pay 3.75 euros for a single journey and 7.00 euros for a return. Children under 12, residents, pay 2.00 euros or 3.75 euros. Children from 0 to 2 years travel free of charge according to the operator.

With the Romero fares, the return journey must be made on the same day. Up to 20 kg of luggage is allowed per person, divided across a maximum of three items. As the available fare information dates from 2025, travellers should check prices, discounts, luggage conditions and possible 2026 fares directly with the relevant operator immediately before booking.

How do I get around on La Graciosa?

La Graciosa has no tarmacked roads. Turismo Lanzarote lists the following options: on foot along the designated paths, bicycle hire or bringing a bicycle, and taxi-jeeps for journeys across the island. Unpaved paths can be demanding in wind, heat or rain.

According to Turismo Lanzarote, the ferry accepts dogs on board provided they are kept on a lead. For current rules on bicycles, larger luggage items and pets, the conditions of carriage of the relevant operator apply. Motor vehicles may only be driven with prior authorisation and on approved tracks.

As an alternative to a simple ferry crossing, there are organised catamaran or day trips with hotel transfer, ferry crossing and additional programme. One provider gives a duration of about six hours and prices from 66 euros for adults or 45 euros for children; services and departure times must be checked before booking.

Which protection rules apply on La Graciosa?

La Graciosa is part of the Chinijo Archipelago and of the Reserva Marina del Archipiélago Chinijo. Alongside La Graciosa, the archipelago includes Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and the Risco de Famara, among others. The entire island belongs to the Parque Natural del Archipiélago Chinijo.

Travellers should use only existing paths and designated access points, avoid disturbing any plants or animals and take their rubbish away with them. Diving is only permitted in designated areas and with prior authorisation. Fires, dumping of waste and the use of soap on beaches are prohibited.

Camping is only permitted at the Bahía del Salado campsite and requires prior authorisation. Additional protection and permit rules may apply for activities within the marine reserve.

What is new for travel in 2026?

The available results show updated Turismo Lanzarote pages in 2026, but contain no clearly identified new ferry route, no confirmed new fare rule and no reliable 2026 reform for travel to La Graciosa. For 2026, the operator pages of Líneas Romero and Biosfera Express in particular should be checked for current timetables, prices and conditions of carriage.

Weather, demand, maintenance work and operational changes can affect connections. Online reservation is recommended, especially in high season. With standard tickets, the return journey must be made on the same day; changes are only possible subject to availability.

Private water taxis are a further option, especially for groups or flexible times, but are generally more expensive than the scheduled ferry. For a reliable climate presentation with monthly AEMET normal values for temperature, rainy days, sunshine duration and sea temperature, no corresponding datasets are available in the available sources.
