Where exactly is the work taking place?
The work affects a stretch of Avenida Fred Olsen running from the junction with Calle Guenia to Parque Temático. In addition, the zone around the Intercambiador de Guaguas, near the former cemetery of Arrecife, is being worked on.
Avenida Fred Olsen runs directly along El Reducto beach and has a pedestrian promenade.
The town council has planned the work together with the works and traffic departments. According to the Ayuntamiento, the aim is to keep the impact on traffic as low as possible.
What does this mean for drivers?
Road closures and diversions are planned for several stretches of road. The contractor has put up information boards on site explaining the closures and alternative routes.
Residents with garages in the affected buildings should plan their journeys during the expected three to four days of work. Mayor Yonathan de León expressly asks them to take access in and out into account during the construction period.
The town council has not given exact daily closure times. A detailed diversion plan was also not published in the statement.
What applies to bus passengers?
The available statement from the Ayuntamiento de Arrecife contains no specific relocation of stops or routes at the Intercambiador de Guaguas. However, the town council has announced that bus station operations will be planned during the work.
Why is resurfacing taking place?
The work is part of the Cuarto Plan de Reasfaltado Municipal, Arrecife's fourth municipal resurfacing plan. According to the Ayuntamiento, it is financed from municipal funds.
So far, the town council says it has renewed around 400 streets. This autumn and winter, a further 200 streets are to follow, including stretches in Argana Alta, Tinasoria, Maneje and parts of Altavista and Titerroy.
The available source does not give an overall budget or individual prices in euros. The work is being carried out by the company awarded the contract for the fourth phase.
What is still open?
An exact completion date, daily working hours and the full list of affected streets have not been published. Possible changes to bus services and an amount in euros were also not given.
The next specific date given is the start on 19 October 2026. According to the town council, further dates depend on construction progress.
Mayor Yonathan de León announced that work will continue on Vía Medular in the first half of November. The affected stretch will then be between the former cemetery and the neighbourhoods of Las Salinas and San Francisco Javier.
What happens next?
After the work at El Reducto and the bus station is completed, the town council plans further resurfacing. In the first half of November, Vía Medular between the former cemetery and the neighbourhoods of Las Salinas and San Francisco Javier is to follow.
Work on the stormwater drainage is currently under way on Vía Medular between Los Alonso and Puerto de Naos. After that is completed, and after the Christmas and Epiphany period, further resurfacing phases on Vía Medular are to follow.
The town council says the later continuation is due to an important shopping centre on Vía Medular whose main access is via this road.
