What is the Drag Queen Gala?
The Drag Queen Gala is a music spectacle held as part of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria carnival. At its heart is a competition for drag queens, accompanied by singing and dance numbers.
According to the official event page, participants present striking costumes, rehearsed choreography, humorous interludes and spectacular performances. The gala is regarded as one of the most distinctive celebrations of diversity in the carnival.
It takes place as part of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival, which in 2027 is themed “La Música”.
When and where does the gala take place?
The Drag Queen Gala is scheduled for Friday 19 February 2027 from 21:00. This is confirmed by the official Carnaval LPGC event page.
The pre-selection of drag queen candidates takes place on Friday 12 February 2027. The selected finalists then perform in the gala on 19 February.
The exact venue for the 2027 gala is not expressly confirmed in the available primary information. For 2027, the official event page names the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival in general as the venue.
What changes in 2027?
The city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria published the rules for the major galas and competitions on 2 October 2026. The documents are available on the official carnival portal.
One innovation for 2027 is the enlargement of the stage area for murgas, comparsas and drag acts. This means more space for the performances of the drag queens and the groups.
The publication covers, among others, the galas for Reina, Drag Queen, children and Dama as well as competitions for murgas and comparsas, costumes, “Divas por la Corona”, body painting and the dog carnival. The murgas keep their existing format with four phases.
