Música Viva: a new open-air concert circuit by Las Canteras

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has a new stage under the open sky. Under the name Música Viva, the city council (Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) is launching a series of live concerts close to the city beach of Las Canteras. The programme was presented by mayor Carolina Darias together with the councillor for security, coexistence and culture, Josué Íñiguez. Canarias7 reported on it in mid-August 2026.

The idea is a monthly open-air music circuit that revives the spirit of the earlier "Playa Viva" concerts and offers a showcase for talent from the Canary Islands. The first phase runs from August to November 2026, with one concert a month in changing locations around Las Canteras and the neighbouring districts.

What Música Viva is

Música Viva is a city-run open-air music circuit in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The performances take place outdoors, in different spaces and squares within easy reach of the popular Las Canteras beach and in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Rather than a single festival at one fixed site, the city is going for a travelling format: the venue changes from month to month, so the concerts land in different corners of the city and put a different district in the spotlight each time.

The concept behind it

According to Canarias7, Música Viva deliberately picks up the spirit of the earlier "Playa Viva" concerts. The aim is to establish a lasting monthly series and, above all, to give a platform to artists from the Canary Islands.

The format is therefore intended less as a one-off big event than as a regular cultural offer: relaxed evenings in the fresh air with the local music scene taking centre stage. Exactly which bands and solo acts perform was not consistently confirmed in the accessible source text.

The first phase, August to November

The opening phase spans four months, from August to November 2026, according to the report. One concert is planned per month, each in a different location near Las Canteras and in the adjoining districts.

That spreads the series across the city's late-summer and autumn programme. If the format proves itself, it is designed as a lasting, monthly circuit rather than an action for a single season only.

The confirmed dates and places

The kick-off was on Saturday 15 August 2026, from 19:00, at the Jardines del Atlántico, right next to the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. The second confirmed date is 12 September 2026 at the Plaza del Pilar, in the Guanarteme district.

For October and November, the accessible report does not give full details of dates and venues. Anyone planning to attend the later concerts should therefore keep an eye on the city's cultural agenda.

Who is behind it

Música Viva is run by the Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The series was presented by mayor Carolina Darias together with the councillor for security, coexistence and culture, Josué Íñiguez.

The city places the project within its cultural offer and, with the recurring format, wants both to strengthen the local music scene and to bring more life to the area around Las Canteras.

For a relaxed evening: Música Viva plays in the open air close to Las Canteras beach — a good fit for an easy-going late-summer night out.
Light but weather-ready clothing and a little extra time for getting there make the visit more comfortable, especially as the venue changes from month to month.
Please note: for October and November the accessible report does not yet give full dates and venues, and the exact line-ups are not consistently confirmed either.
Before heading out it is worth checking the current cultural agenda of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
