What happened, according to reports so far

According to the German-language local station Radio Primavera (RPV Gran Canaria), the raid took place around 11.00 a.m. on Saturday, 13 June 2026. Four masked people are said to have pulled up in a car — by initial, unconfirmed accounts wine-red and of the compact class — at the Avenida de Francia, one of the entrances to the Centro Comercial CITA.

Three of the robbers are said to have entered the centre and headed straight for the Gold Kraemer jeweller. With a hammer and a prising tool they smashed the display cases, according to the report, and grabbed whatever they could, while the fourth waited in the getaway car with the engine running. The whole thing is said to have lasted only about two minutes. No injuries are known — though the shop assistant is in shock. No figure for the value of the haul was initially available. About an hour later, the suspected getaway vehicle was recovered near the airport.

Official confirmation from the Policía Nacional or Guardia Civil was not available at the time of this report; cita.news could not independently verify the details at this stage.

The pattern: almost identical to Carrizal

Anyone who read our April article will find this familiar. On 14 April, five robbers raided the Horacio jeweller in nearby Carrizal: black hoods, hammers and axes, gold specifically targeted, a getaway car into which they switched after seconds. That time it took 25 seconds. Now in CITA too: masked, armed with heavy tools, the jeweller specifically targeted, a waiting getaway car, seconds to minutes. This is not the chance act of an opportunist but bears the hallmark of organised, planned crimes — precisely the pattern the Fiscalía Superior de Canarias described in its 2025 memoria, when it recorded a rise of over 20 percent in proceedings opened in the province of Las Palmas.

And it is not the first blow against this very jeweller: back in April 2016, robbers made off with jewellery and watches worth more than €600,000 at Gold Kraemer in CITA and seriously injured the owner. The main perpetrator, then 43, was sentenced to twelve years in prison in 2019.

Why the south of all places — and the centres of all things

In our analysis we named the drivers, and today's case fits every one of them. The tourist south is at once one of the richest and one of the poorest parts of the island; the jewellers in the shopping centres are lucrative, highly visible targets. At the same time, many of these centres have been decaying for years — a condition that even the party Primero Canarias explicitly lamented in September 2025 for the C.C. CITA, calling it «regrettable and run-down». Where premises stand empty, lighting is lacking and visible police presence is thin, the threshold drops. The Centro Comercial Ronda, still one of the active centres, has been a crime scene twice this year alone.

The uncomfortable truth, which we already spelled out in April: the warning signs were there long ago. The prosecution warned, the figures rose, residents complained of a lack of patrols. Little happened. The raid on Gold Kraemer is, in that sense, not a surprise but a confirmation — the next episode of a wave whose script has long been known.

What it means for CITA News readers

The assessment from back then still stands: by Spanish standards, Gran Canaria is still not a dangerous place, but the trend is upward, and the tourist south with its shopping centres is among the hotspots. For residents, business people and holidaymakers this means not panic but awareness: do not display valuables openly, do not walk alone through half-empty centres at night, and in the event of a robbery — hard as it is — do not play the hero. The owner of the Horacio jeweller escaped with a fright because the getaway car was already waiting. It could have ended differently.

Appeal for witnesses Anyone who witnessed the raid or the getaway vehicle should contact the police — via the emergency number 112 or the Policía Nacional directly on 091.

We are following the case and will update as soon as official bodies give figures on the haul or on possible arrests.

Frequently asked questions

What happened in the C.C. CITA?
According to the local station Radio Primavera, on Saturday morning, 13 June 2026, four masked robbers raided the Gold Kraemer jeweller, smashed the display cases and fled after about two minutes. Official police confirmation was initially pending.
Were there injuries?
According to reports so far, no. The shop assistant is, however, in shock. No figure for the value of the haul was initially available.
