Why is Santa Lucía celebrating Hispanidad early?

The Ayuntamiento de Santa Lucía de Tirajana is deliberately bringing forward the celebrations for Día de la Hispanidad. The Spanish national holiday is on 12 October. The municipality is using the weekend before it for its cultural festival.

Alcalde Francisco García said, according to the Ayuntamiento: “Vivimos en una de las ciudades con más diversidad cultural de Canarias”. He pointed to the large community from Latin American countries that has been resident for decades. The event aims to celebrate this diversity.

The mayor presented the programme together with the Concejal de Cultura Sergio Vega. The municipality calls the festival Espacio Cultural de la Hispanidad. It combines gastronomy, music, dance and activities for children.

What should visitors know?

The Ayuntamiento de Santa Lucía de Tirajana does not mention any admission prices. This suggests that access to the fair, stage programme and workshops is free. However, there is no explicit confirmation of this.

The local authority made no statements about parking, road closures or changes to bus services. No figures were published for prices at the gastronomic stalls either.

Avenida de Canarias is a central street in Santa Lucía de Tirajana. Plaza de Los Algodoneros is nearby.

Which countries are represented?

The programme combines traditional cuisine with folklore and contemporary music. Havana 500, El Mulatico and Elegua are the main musical acts of the weekend.
