What action is planned for 11 November?

CSI, CCOO, UGT, CGT, CNT, Co.Bas, Intersindical and the Unión de Actores y Actrices (not Solidaridad Obrera) registered the strike with the Spanish Ministry of Labour on 19 October 2026.

They are demanding the right to "decent and affordable housing". A 24-hour general strike was initially announced.

UGT and CCOO want to leave room for regions and sectors, however. Partial stoppages of around two or three hours can therefore be set on Tenerife, according to Canarias7.

What does the strike mean for tenants and landlords?

Anyone who takes part in the work stoppage as a tenant or resident must expect a wage deduction, depending on the final arrangements. Manuel Navarro, general secretary of UGT in the Canary Islands, pointed to low wages.

Some workers could effectively be deterred from striking because of a possible wage deduction. There is no right to a rent reduction, automatic suspension of rent payments or a general change to housing rules; this is not proven.

For landlords, too, the announced strike changes nothing in existing contracts for the time being. The employers' side CEOE Tenerife, led by president Pedro Alfonso, does not support the strike and is examining its legal validity.

What disruption could visitors and tourists face?

No confirmed closures of airports, hotels, shops or attractions on Tenerife have been published. Nor has anyone announced price changes, special deadlines or special participation conditions for visitors.

Anyone travelling on Tenerife on 11 November 2026 should still expect possible disruption to public life. The Libertad Digital report names the Sindicato de Inquilinas de Tenerife as an advice point for people with housing problems.

What advice is offered there, when it is open and what conditions apply cannot be independently confirmed from the available primary sources.

How strained is the housing market on Tenerife?

Housing in the Canary Islands cost an official average of 2,146.10 euros per square metre in the fourth quarter of 2025. That was 13.48 percent more than the previous year's figure.

In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife the figure was 2,141.30 euros per square metre. The annual increase there was 14.28 percent.

In September 2024 providers offered 47,343 holiday lets online in the Canary Islands, 12.5 percent more than in September 2023. Tenerife accounted for 41 percent of the Canary Islands stock.

In September 2025 the Canary Islands statistics office ISTAC recorded 47,754 units. That is 0.87 percent more than in September 2024.

What role does the Sindicato de Inquilinas de Tenerife play?

According to the Libertad Digital report, the Sindicato de Inquilinas de Tenerife supports "okupas". The organisation reportedly distributes documents with guidance on dealing with "desokupación" companies.

According to the report, this advice is aimed at people who live in a property through occupation or rent arrears. The organisation is calling for participation in the strike from San Cristóbal de La Laguna.

An open meeting is planned at the CGT premises in La Cuesta. According to the report, the Plataforma Colectivas Migra and Anticapitalistas Canarias are also involved.

What details of the strike are still open?

No one has yet published rally locations, times or minimum services for Tenerife. Nor is any exclusively island-based organisation known.

The exact strike period, the impact on transport and the practical role of the local tenants' union remain open. The next key date is 11 November 2026.

Two days later, on 13 November, the election campaign for the snap Spanish general election on 29 November 2026 is due to begin, according to available reports. Further details of the strike are likely to emerge by then.
