Pasaporte Joven: La Laguna takes youth events into its districts

San Cristóbal de La Laguna on Tenerife is running another round of its municipal youth programme, "Pasaporte Joven 2026", this weekend. Diario de Avisos published the agenda for Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 September, featuring the travelling formats "La Joveneta" and "Territorio Joven" alongside the "Barranquera Festival 2026" on the La Barranquera coast.

Despite the name, this is not a travel document but a municipal leisure programme. According to the Ayuntamiento de La Laguna, the 2026 edition offers more than a hundred free activities in 63 locations across the municipality and runs until 3 October.

What Pasaporte Joven is, and who it is for

Pasaporte Joven is run by the Concejalía de Educación y Juventud, the education and youth department of La Laguna's town hall. It spreads leisure, cultural and sporting activities for young people right across the municipality: the historic centre, the university quarter, the coast, the north-east, the midlands and the outlying villages and neighbourhoods.

The name comes from a physical booklet. According to Diario de Avisos, the passport is stamped when holders attend activities, and the stamps collected qualify them for rewards. Exactly what those rewards are and how they are redeemed is not set out in the published material.

The council describes the offer in general terms as being for young people, while individual items are explicitly advertised as suitable for all ages. Anyone who needs to know whether a specific activity has an age limit should check with the youth department case by case.

The weekend programme in detail

The agenda published by Diario de Avisos covers four days. On Thursday 3 September, "La Joveneta" was in Las Chumberas from 17:00 to 21:00, alongside open-air summer cinema in Las Chumberas (Zootopia 2) and in Punta del Hidalgo (Ready Player One, 21:00), plus "Noches de Fantasía" in Tejina from 22:00.

On Friday 4 September, "La Joveneta" set up in Las Mercedes from 17:00 to 21:00 with workshops, digital games and sports tournaments. On Saturday 5 September, "Territorio Joven" ran in Valle de Guerra from 18:00 to 02:00, with a "Ruta Salsera" on Plaza San Luis Gonzaga in Taco from 20:00.

On Sunday 6 September, "La Joveneta" stops in the Obispado neighbourhood from 10:00 to 14:00. In parallel, "Territorio Joven" moves to Plaza San Luis Gonzaga in Taco from 12:00 to 16:00 — with table tennis, badminton and basketball tournaments, video games (Just Dance) and giant board games, according to Diario de Avisos.

Barranquera Festival 2026 on the coast

The musical high point of the weekend fell on Saturday. According to Diario de Avisos, the La Barranquera coast hosted the "Barranquera Festival 2026" from 19:00, with DJs and local artists. The event is part of the free Pasaporte Joven offer.

La Barranquera lies on the northern coast of the municipality of La Laguna, near the coastal villages of Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo. Anyone travelling by public transport should keep an eye on return times: evening services to the north coast are noticeably thinner than daytime ones.

The council did not publish a full line-up in the material reviewed. Individual DJs or bands therefore cannot responsibly be named; the sources refer only to DJs and acts from the region.

Taking part: cost, registration, contact

The council presents Pasaporte Joven activities as free of charge. For the street and square formats such as "Territorio Joven" and "La Joveneta", the available information indicates no advance booking is required — you simply turn up.

Individual workshops and guided routes are different. Council notices state that these require registration because places are limited; the workshop "Tras el Espejo" was named as an example. No single sign-up form or booking platform covering the whole programme appears in the sources reviewed.

The most reliable route is therefore the municipal website aytolalaguna.es and its youth section, where the council publishes the weekly programmes. Some published Canarian youth-information numbers belong to the Cabildo de Tenerife rather than La Laguna's town hall.

Youth policy in La Laguna, and what comes next

Pasaporte Joven is not a one-weekend project. The 2026 edition began in the summer and, according to the council, runs until 3 October. A full calendar for the remainder of the programme was not available at the time of research; the council releases dates week by week.

Sergio Eiroa, councillor for education and youth, explained the decentralised design by saying the activities should reach every corner of the municipality and encourage young people to take part, as reported by the portal lavozcanaria.com.

In parallel, La Laguna is running the labour-market scheme "Primer Empleo 2026": according to eldigitalsur.com, the town hall is hiring five people under 30 for twelve months, funded by a grant of 142,205.28 euros from the Servicio Canario de Empleo drawing on SEPE funds. The weekend also overlaps with the Fiestas del Cristo, the city's biggest annual festival.

Practical note: The open formats "Territorio Joven" and "La Joveneta" are pop-up set-ups on public squares — sports tournaments, giant board games, Just Dance, workshops. You need nothing beyond comfortable clothes and, for the coastal dates, a jacket for the evening.
For families: if you want the passport stamped, take the booklet to every activity — according to Diario de Avisos, the stamps are the basis for the rewards at the end of the programme.
Check before you travel: Times and venues come from the weekly agenda published by Diario de Avisos and can change at short notice, especially in poor weather on the north coast. No official line-up for the Barranquera Festival 2026 has been published, and details on age limits, booking arrangements and rewards are only partly available. When in doubt, the council's own same-day announcement applies.
