What is the new "Meridianos" section?

The "Meridianos" section expands the international dimension of the Periplo festival. It is organised jointly with the External Relations Department of the Cabildo de Tenerife, as the Wochenblatt reported on 14 October 2026.

The section brings together voices from Europe, Africa and Asia and encourages a dialogue about cultures, identities and different ways of travelling. For Puerto de la Cruz, hosting these events means a space for reading, listening and reflection.

Which events are on the programme?

"Meridianos" opens on Monday, 19 October, with the exhibition "Travesías" by José Naranjo and Juan Luis Rod.

José Naranjo and Juan Luis Rod present the accompanying photo book in conversation with Ebbaba Hameida. The project is based on journeys through five African countries, four islands and eight reception centres and reconstructs the stories of thirteen underage migrants.

Javier Brandoli presents his book "Carbonara con nata". The foreign correspondent has travelled to more than ninety countries and brings together travel writing and essays on topics such as migration, racism, the environment, poverty and populism in this book. In conversation with Leo Santisteban.

Which other authors are coming?

On Tuesday, 20 October, Margaryta Yakovenko presents her book "Ocupación". On Wednesday, 21 October, Capucine Trochet presents "Tara Tari. My Wings, My Freedom".

On Thursday, 22 October, Salah Jamal follows with "Aroma Árabe". On Saturday, 24 October, Kartiki Gonsalves appears with "The Architecture of Care: Cinema for Coexistence" and Binta Claire with "The Daughter of the Wind. My Voice, My Story, My Struggle".

Other named participants are Jorge Volpi, José Ignacio Carnero, Gabriela Wiener, Mónica García Prieto, Javier Espinosa, Rosa María Calaf and Nicolás Castellano.

What is "Periplo Secreto" and how do you register?

"Periplo Secreto" is the festival's most unconventional programme. It is a journey through unusual locations that remains secret until the last moment. Participants receive clues to find out where and how the event takes place.

Prior registration by email to [email protected] is required for these activities.

On Saturday, 24 October, "Correspondencias" also takes place. Further details about the secret locations have not been published.

What should visitors from the south of Tenerife know?

The events take place in the central areas around Lago Martiánez. The main venues are the Carpa Lago Martiánez, the Carpa Sotavento and the Sala Lido. These are located in the centre of Puerto de la Cruz and can be reached from the south of Tenerife by car or scheduled bus.

No additional fees, price changes, access restrictions or road closures are indicated for residents, foreign residents and tourists. The available programme information contains no ticket prices; access should therefore be checked depending on the event.

Visitors should check the respective venue and the updated times in the official daily programme. The programme overview itself points out possible changes to spaces and event details.

What is still open?

Specific information on ticket prices, capacity limits and possible changes to times or venues is not currently confirmed. The email address for "Periplo Secreto" was also only mentioned in the Wochenblatt.

The mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Leopoldo Afonso, invited residents and visitors to look at the programme and take part in the conversations with the protagonists. The full programme is available at festivalperiplo.com.

On 25 October at 13:00, Rosa María Calaf and Nicolás Castellano appear together with the Fundación Vicente Ferrer on the topic "Reporterismo de Paz".
