Which permit do I need for the Teide summit?

For the summit of Teide, the PNT-10 Telesforo Bravo permit is required. The route leads from La Rambleta, the top station of the cable car, to the crater and summit of Teide.

Anyone walking up also needs the PNT-07 Montaña Blanca–La Rambleta permit. Tenerife ON describes this route as demanding, but as the most accessible of the regulated access routes.

The permit is valid for the stated date, the route and, for PNT-10, the booked time slot. A paper or digital copy as well as a national identity card or passport must be carried.

How do I reserve the permit and what deadlines apply?

After registering on Tenerife ON, the reservation is made through the page for the relevant route. According to the information published for 2026, new permits are released on Mondays at 07:00 Canary Island time.

For PNT-10, bookings can be made up to 56 days in advance. For the other regulated routes, Tenerife ON also requires prior online booking, but shows different booking windows depending on the current rules.

Travellers should therefore only use the calendar for the specific route at the time of booking. One person may make only one PNT-10 booking within the relevant restricted period.

The permit is not linked to the operation of the cable car: it remains valid only for the date and time slot shown on the document, even if the cable car does not run that day.

How much does the PNT-10 permit cost?

For time slots that fall within the cable car operating hours, Tenerife ON lists the following public fees: residents of Tenerife pay €0, residents of the other Canary Islands pay €6 and all other visitors pay €15.

Children under 16 pay €0. The fee applies to the permit for the PNT-10 route and is not automatically a cable car ticket.

The summit permit itself is presented in the official access rules as a free quota. Costs typically arise for the cable car, organised excursions, transport or possibly accommodation.

A reliable single summit permit price for 2026 is not shown in the available official extracts. For cable car prices, the current official tariff system should be checked, as prices and operating conditions can be changed seasonally.

How does the ascent with the cable car work?

PNT-10 starts at the top station La Rambleta. Anyone taking the cable car up needs two separate things: a valid cable car ticket and the appropriate PNT-10 permit.

The permit does not automatically entitle you to use the cable car. Conversely, a cable car ticket does not allow access to the summit route.

The cable car takes visitors up Teide to around 3,555 m. This means many visitors reach a high alpine zone without undertaking a classic mountain tour.

The classic approach on foot is via PNT-07 Montaña Blanca–La Rambleta. This approach requires its own permit; the PNT-10 summit permit alone does not allow you to reach the start of the summit route on foot.

Which safety rules do I need to follow?

The authorities require suitable high mountain equipment for the regulated routes. In particular, sturdy, suitable footwear, warm clothing, sufficient water, a pocket torch or head torch and a thermal blanket are mentioned.

In addition, visitors must keep to the marked paths, must not leave litter and must not damage flora or fauna. Sound amplification devices are prohibited.

In snow or ice, special booking and equipment requirements apply for experienced mountaineers. Routes may be temporarily closed in adverse weather.

Before setting off, travellers should check current weather warnings, path closures and notices on the Tenerife ON website or app. A summit permit is not a guarantee of cable car operation or safe conditions.

What alternatives are there without a summit permit?

Anyone who does not get a summit permit can still experience Teide. The cable car up to La Rambleta and the viewpoints can be used as long as they are open and accessible.

A permitted route to the Pico Viejo or La Fortaleza viewpoints is also possible. Teide National Park can be explored on designated hiking trails without entering the Telesforo Bravo route.

For sunrise and sunset there are separate mountaineer permits outside cable car hours.

An organised tour can be booked; however, it does not automatically replace the summit permit.
