What is happening in Arrecife on 6 and 7 November?
Arrecife holds its first open-air theatre festival in La Recova on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November 2026. The island capital opens the historic market to the public on both evenings, according to La Voz de Lanzarote.
The event is officially called the I Festival de Teatro al Aire Libre “RecovaViva”, and this is its first edition. The company D&M Producciones developed it, and the Concejalía de Actos y Eventos (the town hall events department) of the Ayuntamiento de Arrecife (the town council) stages it.
According to La Voz de Lanzarote, the organisers want to bring more cultural life to the town. Locals, visitors and theatre fans are all expressly invited.
For visitors, it is a free evening outdoors in the middle of town. Anyone who wants to go can pick one of three start times: 18:30, 19:30 or 20:30.
What is on the programme on Friday 6 November?
On Friday at 18:30, Claudio Martín gives a talk on costume design. According to the announcement, Martín is a costume designer for theatre, opera and dance.
His topic is “La dramaturgia del traje”, or telling stories without words through costume. The talk is announced in Spanish, and the report mentions no translation.
At 19:30, Marius John and Arima Saavedra play live music. According to the programme, the pair set the mood before the main play.
At 20:30 the group Somos Teatro stages the comedy “Las Pérez García”. La Voz de Lanzarote lists Esther Vázquez, Facunda De León, Virginia Barrero and Isidra Bolaños in the cast.
What is shown on Saturday 7 November?
On Saturday at 18:30, actress Lili Quintana speaks about “El reto de hacer teatro en Canarias”, the challenge of making theatre in the Canary Islands. According to the announcement, she plans to talk openly about current dramaturgy and the practice of staging productions across the archipelago.
At 19:30, Marius John and Arima Saavedra play live music again. The music programme is the same as on Friday.
The finale at 20:30 is “Las mujeres que (m)aman demasiado” by Eduardo Grilli. The group Faranduleando Teatro performs it with Begoña Del Moral, Mónica Arencibia, Ángela Luque and Jennifer Sánchez.
The production won first prize for best performance and the prize for best set design at the theatre festival in Tijarafe on La Palma. La Voz de Lanzarote reports this, and the announcement names both awards too.
Mónica Arencibia and Orlando Márquez founded the group. According to La Voz de Lanzarote, the play has been showing on Lanzarote since its premiere in 2025.
What does it cost and what should visitors know?
All items on the programme are free, says La Voz de Lanzarote. Entry is open until the venue reaches capacity.
The report mentions no registration or ticketing. It names no minimum age or other entry rules either.
The number of places at La Recova has not been published. Anyone who wants to be sure of getting in should arrive early, because admission stops once the limit is reached.
The plays have Spanish titles and are performed in Spanish. You can enjoy the live music at 19:30 without any Spanish.
The announcement does not say what happens in bad weather. To be safe, ask the Arrecife town council shortly beforehand.
What is La Recova and what is still open?
According to La Voz de Lanzarote, La Recova is regarded as the island's first supply market and was in use from the late 19th century. It closed in the 1990s, when the market moved to a new municipal site.
The town council already uses the site for culture, for example the “Vibrato” series of humour and music. The 2025 evenings took place on 4 April, 4 July and 24 October, according to La Voz de Lanzarote.
On 20 April 2024 the show “La isla de antes” also ran there for the town's 225th anniversary. The council's acts and events department organised it, as La Voz de Lanzarote reports.
The council has also awarded a project to reopen La Recova as a market for Lanzarote products with food and drink. The report gives no budget or timetable, and the heritage authority must first approve the changes.
Whether the festival returns every year is not known. No budget for “RecovaViva” has been published either, and nothing is announced after 7 November.
