Do holidaymakers in Corralejo need to take any precautions?

The Guardia Civil made the case public on 6 November 2026, eight days after the arrest. The available reports contain no warning for holidaymakers.

Corralejo lies in the municipality of La Oliva in the north of Fuerteventura. Anyone staying or living there will find no new rule, price or deadline in the reports.

The victim described a fight with two attackers. How the men knew each other has not been published, and neither has a motive.

What exactly happened in Corralejo?

The victim filed a criminal complaint and described two attacks at different places in Corralejo. By his own account, two people first attacked him in a shopping centre.

He suffered minor injuries there and had them treated at a health centre. He then went back to his home.

According to his account, the main suspect was waiting there and attacked him again. The 25-year-old is said to have used the machete only in this second attack, and no report mentions a weapon at the shopping centre.

The cut on the arm was about seven centimetres long and was stitched. Nothing has been published about the man's further condition.

How did police find the suspect?

The Guardia Civil and the Policía Local (local police) of La Oliva began searching straight after the complaint. According to the Guardia Civil, the 25-year-old tried to hide on the roofs of several residential buildings.

He apparently still had the machete on him. Officers found him only a few hours after the complaint and arrested him.

During their enquiries they came across a court order for his search and arrest over earlier incidents. The Guardia Civil did not say which court issued it or what the incidents were.

What happens next in the case?

The Guardia Civil handed the arrested man and the case file to the Sección de Instrucción of the Tribunal de Instancia in Puerto del Rosario. This is the investigating section of the court of first instance and the next stage of the proceedings.

The reports do not say whether the judge ordered pre-trial detention. Nobody has yet named a date for a hearing or a trial.

The man counts as a suspect, and there is no verdict. The court, not the police, decides which legal classification applies in the end.

According to a legal guide, assault with a weapon is usually dealt with under articles 147 and 148.1 of the Código Penal (the Spanish criminal code). These provide for two to five years in prison, but this figure has not been checked against the BOE.

Have there been similar cases in Corralejo before?

On 4 January 2026, a knife attack took place near the abandoned complex known as “el Baku”. The suspect was remanded in custody without bail on 5 January, and no report links it to the current case.

Between 12 September and 11 November 2024, a team of Italian carabinieri worked with the Guardia Civil in Corralejo. This was part of the Interior Ministry's “Turismo Seguro 2024–2027” plan, and the number of officers is not known.
