The second session is intended for the southern region. It takes place on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, also from 17:00 at the Edificio de Usos Múltiples in Chipude, according to a statement by the national park, as Gomera Noticias and Gomera Today report.
Both dates are new Jornadas, because a first presentation has already taken place in San Sebastián de La Gomera. According to Gomera Today, participants there were able to raise questions and suggestions.
The Jornadas are conceived as an open space for information, dialogue and participation, according to Gomera Noticias. Admission fees, registration requirements or special access rules were not mentioned in the available sources.
What is the PRUG and why is it being revised?
The Plan Rector de Uso y Gestión (PRUG) is the central planning instrument for Garajonay National Park. It regulates administration, permitted uses, zoning, nature conservation, public use and economic activities.
The current PRUG was approved in 1986 by Real Decreto 1531/1986 and, according to the BOE, has been in force since 28 July 1986, i.e. for 40 years. As the reason for the revision, the Gobierno de Canarias cites adaptation to climate reality and new scientific data.
The national park itself was created by Ley 3/1981 of 25 March 1981. Zoning and objectives of the current plan are set out in the annex to Real Decreto 1531/1986, published in the BOE of 28 July 1986.
How can residents submit comments?
The public information phase began on 4 August 2026. It lasts three months and ends on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, as the Canary Islands government announced.
Contributions can be submitted through the Canary Islands government's citizen participation portal. Alternatively, the General Electronic Register (Registro General Electrónico) or personal submission are available.
Comments should be addressed to the Dirección General del Medio Natural of the Canary Islands government. No separate rules based on nationality are mentioned in the official information; participation is open to all citizens.
What content will be presented?
During the events, the main contents of the new PRUG will be explained. According to the national park's statement, these include the measures and lines of action that may directly or indirectly affect the territory and the island's population.
The sessions are intended to allow participants to understand the scope of the new regulations and ask questions. Director-Conservador Bernabé Gutiérrez García described the meetings as an opportunity to learn about the new PRUG first-hand.
Specific new bans, fees, closures or changes to hiking trails were not mentioned in the sources found. The final regulations will only be determined once the process is complete.
What does this mean for residents and visitors?
Residents and landowners can submit objections and comments on the draft until 4 November 2026. No final new usage restrictions can be derived from the available information.
For visitors, the draft may in future contain rules on visits, use and zoning. Specific new admission fees or permit requirements were not published in the sources.
The national park has offices in San Sebastián de La Gomera. An information point is located in Laguna Grande.
What happens after the consultation phase?
The current draft has been submitted to the national park's Patronato. It is first to undergo a simplified strategic environmental assessment, as the Canary Islands government announced.
Further administrative and approval steps will follow. No date for the final adoption of the PRUG was given in the available sources.
The official information page of the Canary Islands government provides the draft and the procedural documents. The results of the public consultation and the exact contents of the draft remain open until the process is concluded.
