What makes the Fiestas del Rosario special?

According to RTVC, the Fiestas del Rosario are among the most important and traditional celebrations in the municipality of Hermigua. Devotion to the image of Nuestra Señora del Rosario goes back more than 400 years.

The Comisión de Fiestas Nuestra Señora del Rosario has resumed the celebrations. The programme combines religious tradition with cultural, sporting, musical and community activities.

The events are aimed at all age groups. Children and young people in particular are addressed in several parts of the programme.

Which programme items have been confirmed?

On Saturday, 26 September 2026, the festival begins at 18:00 with the workshop “Rescatando tradiciones” on the Plaza de Santo Domingo de Guzmán. Traditional paper chains made from tissue paper and Poliá will be made there.

On Thursday, 1 October 2026, the plaza will be decorated from 17:00. An hour later, the Campeonato de envite, a traditional card game, begins. Registration takes place directly on site.

How is the Día Grande celebrated?

On Sunday, 4 October 2026, the Día Grande de la Virgen, the Santa Misa in honour of Nuestra Señora del Rosario takes place at 12:00.

Afterwards, the procession follows, accompanied by chácaras and drums. Visitors can hand over sweets as an offering during the celebration.

After returning to the parish, a Homenaje de Fe is held. The group Amanecer de La Gomera then plays for dancing until 22:00. On the same day, prizes donated by businesses and shops are also raffled.

How do the celebrations end?

On Wednesday, 7 October 2026, the programme ends with a day of tradition and devotion. At 17:30, Eduardo Duque González speaks about “El Santo Rosario, del Salterio de la Virgen al arma de la Paz”.
