Fourteen days, and it opens with sport

It starts on Thursday 24 September at 16:00 with the Memorial Ramón Castañeyra at the Pabellón Municipal Oasis, the "24 Horas de Baloncesto". Despite the name, the booklet lists it across four days: Thursday and Friday at 16:00, Saturday at 11:00, the final on Sunday 27 September at 10:00. On Friday 25 September at 20:00 the Centro de Mayores delivers the Pregón on the Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Rosario — the opening address is given this year by the town's older residents. The next evening at 21:00 Cristina Ramos sings at the VIII Festival de la Canción in the Recinto Ferial.

6 October: Rosario Flores first, then the drones

Tuesday 6 October is the biggest night: 22:00 Rosario Flores at the Recinto Ferial, 23:45 the "Espectáculo de Drones", and from midnight a verbena with Grupo Bomba y su Orquesta, Orquesta Furia Joven and Nuevo Klan. The booklet gives no finishing time. Rosario Flores, born in Madrid in 1963, is the daughter of Lola Flores and Antonio González "El Pescaílla". She has won two Latin Grammys: in 2002 for "Muchas flores" and in 2004 for "De mil colores".

Mondragón on the 3rd, Mestisay on the 4th

On Saturday 3 October at 22:00 the Orquesta Mondragón plays the Recinto Ferial, followed by a verbena with Kandela and N-Klave. The band was founded in San Sebastián in 1976 and is built around its theatrical singer Javier Gurruchaga; its best-known songs are "Caperucita feroz" and "Viaje con nosotros". On Sunday 4 October at 19:00 comes Mestisay: founded in 1978 by Manuel González Ortega, devoted to Canarian folk music, with Olga Cerpa as its lead voice since 1986. On both days the Open Bahía de Puerto del Rosario regatta starts at 11:00. The closing act, on 7 October at 20:00, is Antonia San Juan with a "Noche de Humor".

05:00: giant heads and chocolate for the hungover

The main feast day, 7 October, begins at 05:00 with a diana floreada: accompanied by the Banda de Agaete and by papagüevos it moves through the streets and ends at the Plaza de la Iglesia with "chocolate para los resacados" — hot chocolate for the hungover. A diana is originally the military reveille that called the troops out of barracks; it is floreada when the cornet opens with improvised flourishes before the rest of the band joins in. Papagüevos are oversized figures of papier-mâché, wood and cloth whose huge heads are worn over the carrier; in the Canaries they are documented from the 18th century, according to canariascultura.com. At 12:00 comes the solemn mass and procession, at 14:00 the brindis popular.

Admission: the programme names not one price

We searched the booklet page by page: for not a single act across the two weeks is an admission price given — not for Rosario Flores, nor for Mondragón, Mestisay or Cristina Ramos. The one price reference in the whole programme concerns the funfair: on the "Día del Niño" on 24 September and 1 October the rides carry precios especiales, reduced prices. That the main concert is free comes from the press, not from the booklet: Canarias7 wrote on 16 July 2026 that Rosario Flores appears "con entrada libre", and Radio Sintonía speaks of "entrada gratuita". Consistent with that, nothing is on sale for the venue on Tomaticket or Ecoentradas.

Getting there, getting home — and then Puerto Lajas

Puerto del Rosario has been the island capital since 1860, was called Puerto de Cabras until 1957 and has 43,493 inhabitants according to the Spanish statistics office INE (start of 2023). The ferry to Las Palmas leaves from its port, and the airport lies six kilometres south at El Matorral. By road it is about 13 kilometres from Caleta de Fuste, about 30 from Corralejo and about 85 from Morro Jable.

On 18 September neither the Ayuntamiento nor the Cabildo de Fuerteventura nor the island bus operator Tiadhe had published any special service, road closure or parking notice for these fiestas. That such a thing is not simply never issued is shown by the same month: for the Fiestas de La Peña the Cabildo announced closures and extra buses. Afterwards the celebration moves on to Puerto Lajas, which honours the Virgen del Pino from 6 to 12 October — with its own Pregón on 9 October at 20:30 and the Romería on 12 October, setting off at 11:00 from the Plaza de la Iglesia in Puerto del Rosario.
