On which dates can venues in La Laguna open later?
It starts on Friday 20 November, the night of the Christmas lights switch-on. The Gerencia Municipal de Urbanismo, La Laguna's urban planning department, lists six dates between late 2026 and January 2027.
On Saturday 28 November comes the Noche en Blanco, a night of market stalls, street theatre and concerts. The 5 December, the eve of Constitution Day, follows, then Christmas Eve on 24 December and New Year's Eve on 31 December.
The last date is 5 January 2027, the eve of Three Kings. A second account of the decision gives 6 January, so check the date with the venue for that night.
A seventh night, Halloween on 31 October, also appears in one report. It is long past and no longer matters for planning.
How late can bars, discos and live music venues stay open?
Bars and restaurants without music may open until 03:30 on 20 November, 28 November, 5 December and 5 January. The times depend on the type of venue and run into the following morning.
Bars and restaurants with music get until 05:00 on these dates. Live music venues may stay open until 06:30.
Discos, dance venues and function halls with shows stay open longest, until 07:30. Anyone who wants to see the sunrise from a club in La Laguna has four chances.
On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve every limit moves back by an hour. Bars without music close at 04:30, bars with music at 06:00, live music venues at 07:30 and discos at 08:30.
What changes for visitors and residents?
Anyone going out in La Laguna on these dates can stay in the venues concerned until the maximum times given. We do not know how early the venues normally close, so we cannot put the difference in hours.
The Ayuntamiento (town hall) of La Laguna is responsible. We know of no comparable exception for other municipalities on the island, such as in the south.
Each operator sets its own prices, entry fees and actual opening hours. The permission is a ceiling, not an obligation, and a venue may still close earlier.
What rules apply to operators?
Only venues with a municipal operating licence or an equivalent title benefit from the exception. It covers restaurants and bars with and without music, discos, dance venues, live music venues and function halls with shows.
Going by the information so far, operators do not have to apply. The reports mention no registration procedure, though this is not explicitly confirmed.
The longer opening does not allow new shows or extra businesses. Floor area, capacity and fire safety stay as the licence sets them.
Once closing time is reached, the venue has up to 30 minutes to see guests out. After that it must be closed to the public.
Why is La Laguna allowing the longer nights?
Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez names support for business and jobs as the aim. Checks stay in place so that the parties run safely and in an orderly way.
The council also points to a more staggered exit of the crowd. That should mean less crowding on the street and help pedestrians and traffic.
Canarian Law 7/2011 on classified activities and public events could provide the legal basis. That is as far as the available information goes.
It is not confirmed which legal instrument the council used. Decree 86/2013 of 1 August develops the law further.
We have not checked which basic hours the law sets. So it remains open what the extension is measured against.
What is still open and what comes next?
The reports do not say whether the exception covers the whole municipality. That point remains open.
It is unclear what happens in case of an overrun, what noise rules apply for residents and whether there are security or bus services on these nights. The council has published nothing on this so far.
The Christmas lights come on 20 November. According to the programme, the ceremony moves from Plaza del Adelantado to the Plaza de La Concepción area because there is more room.
A week later, on 28 November, comes the Noche en Blanco, with four parades and a concert by M-Clan on Plaza del Cristo. Then follow 5 December, the two festive nights in December and the start of 2027.
