When and where does Abián Díaz perform in La Orotava?

On Thursday 5 November 2026, Abián Díaz takes the stage at 20:30 at the Liceo de Taoro in La Orotava. The evening is part of the programme around a short-film festival.

According to unverified information, the Liceo de Taoro is a cultural association with a garden. It has reportedly used the Monteverde family palace since 1975 for exhibitions, concerts and talks.

La Orotava is not one of the big beach resorts, so anyone coming from a holiday resort in the south should plan the route in advance. The organisers have not yet published official advice on getting there or on parking.

The exact address and the building’s accessibility are not confirmed. Anyone arriving with a wheelchair or pushchair should ask the Liceo de Taoro directly.

What can the audience expect from “Show Patético”?

Díaz is from Tenerife and works as a comedian and actor. His show mixes monologue, a few musical numbers and a large improvised section.

By “patético” (roughly “pitiful”), Díaz says he means the mix of constant mistakes and the illusion of control. The programme is about the small mishaps of being human.

In the announcement, Díaz jokes that some spectators may need to step outside for air. From the foyer, they can then decide whether to come back.

The show tours theatres across Spain in 2026, including Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña, Zaragoza and Gijón. In the Canary Islands, it is listed in event calendars for Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.

Do you need Spanish to follow the evening?

Díaz performs in Spanish, and much of the evening is improvised. The organisers have not said whether there will be translation or surtitles.

Anyone with little Spanish should expect to miss some of it. The musical numbers and the mood in the room can be enjoyed without the language.

In 2025, the University of La Laguna showed the programme in its humour festival “Reislas – Festival de Humor 8 Islas”. So the show had already run on Tenerife outside the La Tijera festival.

How do visitors get tickets?

Tickets are sold through the Tickety.es platform, and the festival website links to the sale. According to the site, Díaz’s show and the main festival use the same ticketing system.

The size of the venue and the length of the show have not been published. Whether any tickets will be left at the door is unknown.

Anyone planning to go should check the price directly on Tickety.es. Alternatively, they can ask the Liceo de Taoro.

What is the La Tijera festival?

“La Tijera – Festival de Cortos Villa de La Orotava” is described in the press as the oldest short-film festival in the Canary Islands. Its 20th edition ran from 6 to 8 November 2025 at the Cines Yelmo La Villa.

The organiser is the production company Cinenfoque, together with the Ayuntamiento de La Orotava (the town council), the Gobierno de Canarias and Turismo Islas Canarias/Promotur. The Cabildo de Tenerife (the island government) and private sponsors also take part, but who pays how much is not known.

In 2025, the Tenerife comedian Darío López hosted the festival. The actress Cayetana Guillén Cuervo presented the awards on 8 November.

For the 2026 competition, 500 works were submitted, according to the festival website. For the 2023 edition, reports on the 18th edition give 620.

Figures for 2024 and 2025 are missing. That does not show a trend.

What comes after the show?

The main festival, “La Tijera XXI”, runs from 12 to 14 November 2026 at the Casa de la Cultura San Agustín in La Orotava. The festival website says tickets go through the same system as the show, but the sources give no ticket prices for the festival days.

In earlier years, the fringe programme included school screenings, exhibitions and screenings at other places in the municipality. Whether similar events are planned for 2026, and whether the films will carry subtitles, is not stated.
