When and where do the tours take place?
The next tour starts on Sunday 8 November at 11:00. The Ayuntamiento (city council) of Santa Cruz de Tenerife lists four more days before the end of the month.
On Sunday 15 November, the tour again starts at 11:00. On Friday 20 November, tours run at 18:00 and 20:00.
On Sunday 22 November, groups set off at 11:00 and 18:00. The programme ends on Friday 27 November with two tours, at 18:00 and 20:00.
The opening tours on Friday 6 November have already taken place. Another programme overview gives only 18:00 for 20 and 27 November, but the city’s statement also lists 20:00.
What do visitors experience on the tour?
The tour “100 Years of García Sanabria” takes visitors to the Santa Cruz of 1926, when the city was preparing to open its municipal park. It blends theatre, history and folk music.
A rowdy “parranda” (folk music group) bursts onto the scene, looking for the then mayor, Don Santiago García Sanabria. Along the way, participants learn how the park came about and hear episodes from the city’s memory.
Ubaldo Vestimenta, the historian and communicator Néstor Verona, Mar Gutiérrez and the “Parranda El Abuelo” put the show together. The city has not said how long the tour lasts.
Culture councillor Santiago Díaz Mejías calls the tours an “original and attractive way to pass on our heritage”. He has younger generations especially in mind.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez sees the anniversary as a chance to reconnect with the city’s own history. According to the statement, he said the park is among the best-loved and most representative places in the city.
How do I get tickets, and where is the meeting point?
Taking part costs nothing, the city says. Tickets are available from one hour before each tour starts, in the exhibition hall of Parque García Sanabria.
The city issues at most two tickets per person, and each tour has only 50 places. The statement does not mention online booking.
According to culture councillor Santiago Díaz Mejías, the meeting point is the “La Fecundidad” fountain in the park itself. For the 11:00 tour, be at the exhibition hall from 10:00.
The organisers have not named a tour language. If you do not understand Spanish, it is best to ask on site.
What else is on around the anniversary?
The III Jornadas de Patrimonio Histórico (historic heritage days) of the Organismo Autónomo de Cultura run from 11 to 13 November 2026. On 11 and 12 November, there are talks about the park in the Templo Masónico.
Rafael Escobedo speaks on the sculptures, José Manuel Ledesma on history, Carlos Pallés on the urban context and Atteneri Rivero on botany. Two guided visits follow on 13 November.
Carlos Pallés leads a walk through the “barrio de los hoteles” and the Ramblas, while Rafael Escobedo guides visitors to the sculptures in the park. The available information gives no times, prices or registration details.
The exhibition “Las Lavanderas de Santa Cruz” runs from 5 to 29 November in the Sala de Arte Los Lavaderos. The Templo Masónico also hosts the escape game “La Última Tenida”, based on the last meeting of the Logia Añaza on 13 July 1936.
What is known about the park’s history?
A citizens’ committee called “Pro-Parque” raised money for the park in 1922 and 1923. On 12 December 1923 the city bought the first plots, and it marked that anniversary as early as December 2023.
On 9 August 1926, the city council approved the park’s construction. The mayor was Santiago García Sanabria, and the plan came from a company in Granada.
Decree 144/2016 of 5 December declares the park a Bien de Interés Cultural (protected heritage site) in the category “Jardín Histórico”. The Cabildo de Tenerife (island government) had opened the procedure with a resolution of 11 June 2013.
The flower clock dates from 1959. It was a gift from the Danish consul P. Larsen.
The last major overhaul ran from October 2004 to June 2006 under Juan Manuel Palerm and Leopoldo Tabares de Nava. The 2026 anniversary refers to 1926, not to the land purchase of 1923.
What is still open, and what should visitors from the south know?
The city has not yet named the tour length, language or extra dates. No budget for the anniversary programme has been published either.
The park lies in the centre of Santa Cruz, and the statement gives no travel details. To be safe, ask the Ayuntamiento or the park’s exhibition hall about times and free places.
The tours end on Friday 27 November with two tours at 18:00 and 20:00. Anyone visiting after that can still see the anniversary exhibition “Las Lavanderas de Santa Cruz” until 29 November, according to the available information.
