What does the contest mean for holidaymakers?

For visitors and tourists, the available information shows no new ticket prices, access restrictions, event cancellations or other travel rules. The contest is aimed solely at artists, graphic designers and other people resident in the Canary Islands.

Holidaymakers without Canarian residency are not eligible, according to the details provided. Specific carnival dates, the later programme and possible further contests have also not yet been announced.

Who can take part and what rules apply?

Artists, graphic designers and other people resident in the Canary Islands are eligible to enter. The call is therefore also open to German expats living there.

Each participant may submit no more than three original and unpublished designs. Each design must reflect the carnival theme and must include the text “Carnaval 2027, Los Llanos de Aridane, Canarias”.

The required format is DIN A3. Entries must be submitted without a signature and must meet the technical requirements for printing, reproduction and adaptation to different media.

The designs must be created entirely by humans. The use of generative artificial intelligence is expressly banned at every stage of the creative process.

In addition, the technical documents and personal declarations set out in the full terms and conditions must be submitted. The full terms are expected to be available on the website of the Ayuntamiento de Los Llanos de Aridane.

How and by when can entries be submitted?

The regular deadline ends on 6 November 2026 at 13:30. Postal entries will still be considered if they were postmarked no later than 6 November 2026.

They are expected to arrive by 10 November 2026. Entries can be handed in at the Registro General of the Ayuntamiento de Los Llanos de Aridane or sent by post to the municipal address given in the terms and conditions.

How much is the prize and who decides?

The single prize is 700 euros, including the applicable income tax (IRPF). A jury of three recognised specialists is due to meet on 11 November 2026.

The jury is expected to assess the designs and announce the decision. The town council did not give a later date for the unveiling of the winning poster.

How was the circus theme chosen?

The town had previously asked residents to vote online on the carnival theme. Of 713 votes, 307 votes, or 43.06 percent, went to the circus.

Behind it were “Ancient Egypt” with 190 votes (26.65 percent), Venezuela with 119 votes (16.69 percent) and “Ancient Civilisations” with 97 votes (13.60 percent). The vote shows that the theme enjoyed broad support among residents.

What is different compared with previous years?

The previous edition, Carnival 2026, was dedicated to fairy tales. At that time the prize for the poster was 500 euros, according to the information provided.

For Carnival 2027 the prize has now risen to 700 euros. The deadline of 6 November 2026 is set considerably earlier than last year, when the contest ran until 30 November.
