How do I get from the Canary Islands to Marrakech?
Marrakech lies in Morocco, outside the Schengen area. The research found no special Canary Islands status at entry, so passengers from Gran Canaria, Tenerife or Lanzarote go through normal passport control.
The flight links can only be partly documented. No timetable from an airline, from the Spanish airport operator AENA or from Marrakech airport is available for any route.
What follows comes from trade media, comparison sites and press releases. Treat it as a guide, not as a valid flight schedule.
Comparison sites disagree on flight time. Lastminute.de gives about 2 hours 10 minutes for Gran Canaria to Marrakech, while other sites say about 1 hour 35 minutes.
Both figures come from portals with no primary source. You must also allow for the journey to the airport, security checks and the transfer into the city.
A day trip is hardly worth it. That is the research team’s own judgement, not a claim from any source. Plan at least one or two nights, and check flight times directly with the airline before you book.
Which airline flies from which Canary island to Marrakech?
The trade site Aviacionline reported a Binter programme for summer 2023. It listed Gran Canaria to Marrakech on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and Tenerife North to Marrakech on Saturdays. The article dates from 2023, and it is not confirmed that the ATR 72-600 timetable still applies.
The sources contradict each other on Binter. Bladi.net reported that Binter resumed a weekly Sunday flight to Marrakech-Menara on 5 December 2021, and comparison sites such as Omio and Rumbo also list Binter on Gran Canaria to Marrakech.
The Canary broadcaster RTVC, however, names no Canaries to Marrakech route in its article on 78,000 seats to Morocco and Western Sahara. Marrakech appears there only on the Madeira to Marrakech route.
Comparison sites also list Tenerife South.
Sources put Ryanair’s frequency anywhere from three flights a week to daily. The airline has not confirmed it.
The newspaper Voz Populi writes that Ryanair is adding 17 routes in Morocco for winter 2026/27, reaching 156 routes from 13 airports. The report does not say which of the 17 are Canarian, and the research found no Marrakech link for Fuerteventura or La Palma.
How much do flights from the Canaries to Marrakech cost?
There are no reliable 2026 prices, because the portal figures carry no date and no period of validity. Rumbo and Lastminute quote about 37 euros one way and 51 euros return for Ryanair from Gran Canaria.
Another site lists roughly 34 euros one way and 82 euros return, but it is useless as a price guide. A further portal gives 60 to 280 US dollars for Tenerife to Marrakech.
That range is not reliable and probably includes connecting flights. Only the price the airline shows for your chosen date means anything.
Fares depend on luggage and booking time, but the research holds nothing on those, or on public holidays and school breaks. If you are flexible, compare several departure days and both of the larger islands.
For contrast, here is a price from a different context. Times of Madeira quotes about 130 euros one way from Madeira to Marrakech in July and August, with no year given. That figure says nothing about the Canaries.
What do I need to enter Morocco?
An ID card is not enough. According to the German Foreign Office (as of 3 November 2026), German citizens need a passport valid for at least another 6 months. No visa is required for stays of up to 90 days, whether for tourism or business.
If you live in the Canaries and hold another passport, check the rules for your nationality. For Spanish citizens, secondary sources citing the Spanish foreign ministry report the same: a passport rather than the DNI (national ID card), valid for at least 6 months, and no visa for up to 90 days.
The research could not read the ministry’s own page. The claim that Morocco may ask for a return or onward ticket and a hotel booking is also unconfirmed secondary information.
The British foreign ministry (gov.uk) sets a shorter limit for British citizens. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months after arrival, and a damaged passport can lead to refused entry.
Gov.uk also advises getting an entry stamp in your passport on arrival. Travellers without one have had problems when leaving.
On cash, the figures differ. The German Foreign Office says travellers may bring in or take out no more than 2,000 Moroccan dirham (MAD), with a declaration required from 100,000 MAD. Gov.uk also gives 100,000 MAD, which it converts to about £8,000.
If you carry larger sums, clear it with the Moroccan authorities in advance. The Schengen systems EES and ETIAS apply only to entry into the Schengen area, not to entry into Morocco.
That point on EES and ETIAS rests on a Campervanlife travel guide, and gov.uk does not mention it. The research did not check details of EES in the Canaries.
How should I behave in the medina, and what is forbidden?
The German Foreign Office warns of a raised risk of theft and robbery at tourist sights, especially in the medinas (old towns). Moped thieves snatch bags and phones, sometimes violently.
It advises carrying only the day’s cash and keeping valuables out of sight. Passports and spare ID are best left safe in the hotel, where local rules allow.
Possessing drugs is a crime in any quantity, and the German Foreign Office names up to 10 years in prison as the penalty. Buying or carrying cannabis is among the most common mistakes it lists, even in small amounts.
Drones are strictly banned in Morocco. The German Foreign Office says they are confiscated and the owner may be prosecuted, so leave yours at home even if it is legal in the Canaries, as the research names no exceptions.
On the roads, the German Foreign Office urges caution. If you are thinking of hiring a car, it is better not to drive yourself in the dark.
On health, it recommends a hepatitis A vaccination and warns of rabies from stray dogs. The research found no reliable sources on prices, haggling or dress, so you will find nothing on those here.
What are the alternatives, and what is still open?
According to the sources reviewed, Binter flies from Gran Canaria to Essaouira, which a travel portal puts about 170 kilometres from Marrakech. Aviacionline reported on the resumption.
Essaouira suits a coastal stay with a transfer afterwards, but the timetable and transfer options are unchecked. Otherwise Marrakech can be reached via Madrid or Casablanca, which the research did not check.
That is not verified on the page itself.
There are no official climate averages for the weather. Bestdateweather.com gives May a high of 30.0 degrees and a low of 15.0 degrees, with 12.7 hours of sun and 12 per cent rainy days.
Several blogs recommend March to May and September to November, and say July and August often top 40 degrees. For current readings and warnings, see CITA weather (cita.news/de/wetter.html) and AEMET.
The German Foreign Office strongly advises against travel to Western Sahara and to the border region with Algeria. Still open are the winter 2026/27 timetables of Ryanair and Binter, passenger numbers and the history of the route before 2022.
Before booking, check binter.com, ryanair.com and the AENA route lists. Look at the German Foreign Office page to see whether the entry rules have changed.
