What is changing on Calle Arenales?
Arona town council published a traffic notice about Calle Arenales in Playa de las Américas on 4 November 2026. It is closing one lane there for roadworks.
According to the notice as retrieved, the closure starts on 5 November 2026 at 07:00. There is no fixed end date, and it lasts until the work is done.
One lane is closed, not the whole road. The text does not say how long the affected stretch is.
Playa de las Américas lies in the south-west of Tenerife and belongs to the municipality of Arona, on the border with Adeje. The Ayuntamiento (the town council) usually looks after roads in the resort, but that is not confirmed for Calle Arenales.
Which date applies to the closure?
The news overview on arona.org gives 29 October 2026, 08:00 to 12:00, for the same notice. It also lists 4 November as the publication date.
That slot would fall before publication, so it fits a traffic warning poorly. Whether the overview or the notice itself contains an error has not been clarified.
Only the publication on 4 November 2026 is certain. The start on 5 November at 07:00 rests on one of the two retrievals.
Anyone driving through Calle Arenales should expect the lane closure. The original text is in the press section of arona.org.
What should drivers and pedestrians keep in mind?
The council asks drivers to take care and follow the temporary signs. The text gives no further instructions.
The notice mentions no diversion, no parking arrangement and no contractor. It also says nothing about the local buses (guaguas).
Journeys, parking and footpaths in the resort centre may suffer. That is an assessment, since the town hall text mentions only the lane closure and the call for care.
Prices, deadlines or applications are not affected by the roadworks. Anyone driving through the centre in a hire car or taxi should allow a little extra time.
Is the work part of the resurfacing programme?
On 13 October 2025 Arona launched a resurfacing programme worth 2.2 million euros. It covers more than 20 roads and over 100,000 square metres of carriageway.
The programme affects Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos, Costa del Silencio, El Fraile, Guargacho and Las Rosas. The department for works and infrastructure is in charge.
Roads named as work in progress were Avenida de Suecia, Calle Ramón Pino, Paseo Cornisa, Calle Otero and Calle Barroso. Calle Arenales is not on that list.
The programme proceeds in stages to limit disruption. Mayor Fátima Lemes Reverón gives its aims as greater road safety and renewal of the most worn surfaces.
Whether the work on Calle Arenales belongs to this programme is not documented. Arona does not state the purpose or the client in its traffic notice.
What is still unknown and what else is coming up?
The purpose of the work, the client, the contractor and the cost in euros are all unknown. The council has also not published an end date or the length of the closed stretch.
No media reports on the roadworks have turned up so far. The town hall names no follow-up dates, so the end of the work remains open.
The council overview carries further notices for the south. A traffic notice applies from 5 to 8 November 2026 for the festivities in honour of San Martín de Porres in Cabo Blanco.
On 5 November 2026 the council is also temporarily taking over parking areas for the installation of Christmas lights. It does not say which areas are affected.
