What did the festival offer in Puerto de la Cruz?

For one week, flower art and botany showed locals and visitors the town’s gardens. The ninth edition ran from 21 to 27 October 2024, the town council (Ayuntamiento) of Puerto de la Cruz said.

On 30 October 2026, the festival website says, the photo contest Un Jardín, mil miradas ran at the Hotel Tigaiga from 16:00 to 18:00. The pictures were taken on mobile phones.

A historic tour of the Botanical Garden followed on 31 October at 10:00. Open-air painting was also on offer.

In 2024, students from the Centro de Referencia Nacional de Jardinería in Los Realejos spruced up the area around the Plaza de la Iglesia, the council said. Students from IES María Pérez Trujillo created a temporary garden on the Plaza Concejil.

Which tours were there for visitors from abroad?

Several tours ran in different languages in 2024, according to the council. Ramón Michán led visitors through the town’s squares and gardens, it said, and Úrsula Talg through the Hotel Tigaiga gardens, which cover more than 7,000 square metres.

The Fundación Telesforo Bravo offered the route Puerto de la Cruz: Hecho de mar, plantas y volcanes, roughly “made of sea, plants and volcanoes”. There was also an adventure game, Escape City, built around Las flores que nunca se marchitaron, “the flowers that never wilted”.

According to the organisers, tours, workshops and talks needed advance registration. The address info@citpuerto.com appeared in the 2024 announcement.

You can reach the organiser by phone on +34 922 38 87 77, Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 15:00. The Botanical Garden held an open day in 2024.

At the historic Sitio Litre garden a special admission charge applied, according to Tenerife Weekly. None of the sources gave the exact price.

Who organises the festival and who pays?

The Centro de Iniciativas Turísticas (CIT) of Puerto de la Cruz organises the festival, with support from the council and Turismo de Tenerife. It is a voluntary tourism event, and we found no regulation for it in the Canary Islands official gazette (BOC) or the Spanish state gazette (BOE).

CIT president Juan José Hernández Melián named the aim as “to enhance our botanical heritage” and to improve the look of streets and squares. By his account, the festival has run since 2008.

Puerto de la Cruz has around 550,000 square metres of gardens, 50,000 of them municipal, said Alonso Dionisio Acevedo Abrante, councillor for Servicios Generales (general services). In his words, they lie on squares and at prominent spots and hold native and historic plants.

At the presentation in the Casa Rahn gardens, mayor Leopoldo Afonso Hernández thanked the CIT for its long work. Tourism councillor Desiré Díaz Torres stressed that the festival should raise awareness of native plants.

None of the sources gave a budget for the festival. In 2022, according to the council, the Canary Islands agricultural research institute (Instituto Canario de Investigaciones Agrarias, ICIA), hotels and cultural venues took part.

When is the next edition, and is the trip worth it?

The date changes from edition to edition: the eighth ran from 21 to 27 November 2022, the ninth in October 2024. On a two-year rhythm the next would fall in 2028, but we found no announcement.

Puerto de la Cruz lies on Tenerife’s north coast and is known for its Botanical Garden and historic gardens. The sources say nothing about getting there from the southern resorts, so visitors should check timetables and parking themselves.

The gardens are destinations without the festival too: the organisers name the Botanical Garden, the Sitio Litre orchid garden, Parque Taoro, Lago Martiánez and Casa Rahn. Opening hours and admission prices are unconfirmed, so visitors should ask the operators.

The CIT publishes current information at puertodelacruzenflor.com. A digital brochure for the 2026 edition and a weekly plan are available to download there.

We found no visitor numbers or reports from after the festival weeks. Independent confirmation from Canarian media is also missing.
