What is the weather forecast for Tenerife on Wednesday?
Wednesday brings growing cloud and heavy showers, says Aemet, the state weather service. On Tenerife the snow level sits above 2,800 metres, though it may dip slightly at times.
According to Aemet, the showers start inland in the morning. By the end of the day they may reach the coast, most likely in the north-east.
Aemet does not rule out thunderstorms. The wind stays light to moderate and changes direction with the sea breezes.
What does this mean for holidaymakers in the south?
The beaches stay mild, because snow affects only the summit area of Teide. Aemet forecasts 20 to 25 degrees for Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 18 to 25 degrees for most other island capitals.
If you plan a beach day, expect showers in the afternoon. The forecast gives no separate times for the south, and the warning says nothing about rainfall amounts or warning times.
Anyone going up Teide should pack warm clothes and keep their plans flexible. The sea in the north-west runs at 1 to 2 metres, and the weather overall is unsettled.
When does the Cabildo close the roads to Teide?
Snow or ice on the carriageway is enough for the Cabildo de Tenerife (the island government) to close the roads into the national park. Usually that means the TF-24 from La Esperanza and the TF-21 from La Orotava.
In February 2026 the TF-21 between La Caldera and the cable car stayed shut, as did the TF-24 from the Los Loros junction. Sheets of ice and around 3 centimetres of snow caused the closures.
No confirmed closure has been reported for 4 November. What we describe is a pattern from past events, not an announcement for this Wednesday.
What about the cable car?
The operator has not confirmed anything about the cable car for 4 November. Travel sites say wind, ice and snow can halt the service without warning, but that does not come from the operator.
Refunds and opening hours for that day are also unconfirmed. Ticket holders should ask the operator before they travel.
How often does it snow on Teide?
The first autumn snow fell on Teide on 22 October 2026, only as a thin layer at the summit. At the top cable car station, 3,555 metres up, weather services measured 1 degree at 03:07.
After snow, on Tuesday 16 December 2025, the Cabildo opened access from 12:00 for cars only. Three snowploughs and one loader were at work.
The research found no reliable statistics on snow days or closure days. Closures did recur in almost every winter season.
Who issues the warnings and what happens next?
Aemet issues the weather warnings, and the Canary Islands government then declares a pre-alert, an alert or a maximum alert. The steps follow the civil protection plan for severe weather, created by Decreto 186/2006 and updated by Decreto 18/2014.
Aemet updates its warnings daily. A new forecast for Thursday 5 November was not yet available.
