What does the end of the race mean for residents and visitors in the south?

The race ended on Saturday morning, 7 November 2026, when Nira Castro, Nataniel Rodríguez and Eduardo Falcón arrived last in Tejeda at about 09:00, says the organiser. That was before the cut-off, which had been brought forward to 10:00.

The route ran through Parque Sur near Maspalomas at kilometre 121.68, then on via Arteara and Fataga to Santa Lucía. The organiser's reports mention no closures or traffic notices for the south.

The course was never marked, and runners navigated by GPS. Anyone wanting to know whether competitors are still out at the weekend should ask the organiser before travelling anywhere.

What did the wind warning change in the race?

The Gobierno de Canarias had issued a strong wind warning, and the organiser acted on it. From Friday 6 November at 20:00, compulsory time checks applied at La Pasadilla and Santa Brígida.

The cut-off moved to Saturday at 10:00, ahead of the original limit of 101 hours. The organiser cites the safety of participants and the weather conditions.

It is not confirmed that the wind was the only reason for the shorter deadline. Eight of the ten women who started finished within the new times, while the organiser gave no overall figure for withdrawals.

Who won in Tejeda?

José Bordón from Agüimes and Álvaro Santana crossed the line side by side in 51:22:22 and shared the win. Bordón had already won in 2025, when Santana finished fifth.

Cristian Guerra took third about two hours later, so all three podium places went to runners from the island. John F. Jahre of Norway was fourth, 17 minutes behind Guerra, and Dionisio García fifth in 54:09:48.

According to the organiser, Bordón said of the joint finish: “The placing is almost secondary.” Santana stressed that the months of preparation are often harder than the race itself.

Among the women, Swiss runner Anita Lehmann won in 57:44:37, shortly before 19:00 on Friday, and was seventh overall. It was her second win, which puts her level with Annemarie Gross and behind only five-time winner Claire Bannwarth.

Lehmann spoke of a fall on the first descent and an insect in her ear. Her comment at the finish: “I will have to share the medal with him.”

Frenchwoman Justine Houteer was second and Norwegian Gro Siljan Hjukse third, both on their debut. Bannwarth, who had won five times in a row, suffered a calf problem, the organiser says.

What was the route like and who took part?

The start was on Wednesday 4 November at 09:00 at the Plaza de Santiago (Santiago square) in Gáldar, the first time in the race's history. The route was 254.1 kilometres long, with its highest point at 1,770 metres near Los Moriscos.

It led via Artenara, Cercados de Araña, Parque Sur and Santa Lucía to Agüimes, La Pasadilla, Valsequillo and Santa Brígida. From there about 40 kilometres remained to Tejeda.

There was only one aid station, in Artenara, because the race is run solo with no support crews. Spectators could see the runners at the life bases in Cercados de Araña, Parque Sur, Santa Lucía and Santa Brígida, and at the finish in Tejeda.

In total, 106 runners started, including 10 women, 7 of whom came from abroad. The organiser is Arista Eventos and the race director is Carlos González.

How does this compare with previous years?

The 10th edition in November 2025 had to move less than 24 hours before the start because of a wildfire warning. The start shifted from Tejeda to the Jardín Canario in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the route shrank to 222 kilometres.

Bordón won that race in 40:47:53, the first Canarian ever to do so. His 2026 time is about 10.6 hours slower, on a route that was a good 30 kilometres longer.

In 2025, 107 starters from 22 nations took part, and 23 of them did not finish. Lehmann won in 55:15:11 and ended Bannwarth's streak.

In 2024 the route was 258 kilometres, with a 71% finish rate and 28 withdrawals. Luca Papi of Italy finished for the eleventh time in 2026 and is the only runner to have completed every edition.

What is still unknown?

In the reports available, the organiser has not said how many runners finished in 2026 or how many withdrew. Prize money and entry fees are also unpublished.

As things stand, there is no date for the 2027 edition or for the opening of registration. This year registration ran through the RocktheSport platform, with a discount phase from 29 April to 30 June.

According to the reports, Tejeda was the finish and the venue of the closing celebration for the fifth year running. Interested visitors can find news for next year on the organiser's website.
