Twenty euros to dance, five to watch
Normally the audience pays. At MASDANZA Junior the most expensive of the three tickets is the one where you do the work. The "Entrada Masterclass" costs 20.00 euros and includes, per its description, "access to the stage and taking part in the masterclass". The "Entrada General" costs 5.00 euros for "attendance to watch the masterclass as audience from a seat"; a third ticket at the same price is reserved for people with reduced mobility. But the advertised prices are not the final ones: the purchase form adds a ten per cent booking fee to the masterclass, 2.00 euros, and a flat 0.90 euros to every seat. The gap is therefore not four times but 3.7.
Who can take part, and what parents sign
The age range is published and narrow: 12 to 17. The ticket page states that all participants are minors and need an authorisation; the form is linked there. It asks for the parent's or guardian's details and the child's, plus two emergency numbers, and it has to be shown on request together with the adult's identity document. Two clauses are worth reading before buying: under clause 3, the organisers do not take custody of the child unless they expressly set up a chaperone service. And the form includes consent to photographs and video of the child for the festival's own communication — free of charge, limited to festival purposes and revocable for future uses.
What the five euros show you, and what they don't
This is where the evening is most easily misread: there is no performance. Anyone paying 5 euros sees, per the shop's description, the masterclass itself — two hours of teaching, watched from a seat. Neither the ticket page nor the programme publishes a closing showing or a separate start time for the audience inside the 18:00 to 20:00 window; audience and participants go in together from 17:30. The level is open too: technique, versatility, stage presence and artistic identity are announced in a mix of several styles, but no prior experience is required and no groups are mentioned. Darío Sáez, born in Madrid in 1994, has been teaching for more than a decade according to Maspalomas Ahora and works in hip-hop, jazz funk, commercial and heels.
Buying: online only, with no published deadline
Sales run through tickety.es/event/masdanza-junior; the festival links there from its own "Teatros" page and lists the date as "ya a la venta". On Friday morning the purchase form was offering all three ticket types. The 5-euro ticket is a numbered seat chosen on a seating plan; how many are still free is not published. The Canary Islands' register of cultural venues puts the Sala Gabriel Rodó at 350 seats, but the festival does not say how many tickets it is selling. Nor is there a deadline: no closing time for online sales is published. One warning for anyone following the printed programme: its general ticketing line mentions the "taquillas de los teatros", the theatre box offices, alongside the website. For this date, according to the ticket page, that does not apply.
The festival: 31st edition, 1 to 24 October
MASDANZA, the Festival Internacional de Danza Contemporánea de Canarias, runs its 31st edition from 1 to 24 October 2026, and the Junior date is in the official programme, as one of the festival's training events rather than a fringe activity. The weight of it is in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: the opening on 1 October at Casa África, the Teatro Guiniguada on 7, 9 and 10 October, the two competitions on 15 and 16 October at the Teatro Pérez Galdós, the winners' gala on 17 October and the closing gala on 24 October at the Teatro Cuyás. Beyond the capital there are Maspalomas on 10 October, Tenerife on the 18th, Agüimes on the 22nd and Santa Brígida on the 23rd. According to masdanza.com the first prizes are 6,000 euros in the Certamen Coreográfico and 4,000 euros in the Certamen de Solos.
