What is changing for the summit ascent?

The new resolution of the Cabildo de Tenerife (island government) was signed on 6 October 2026. It reduces the allocated time slot for the Sendero Telesforo Bravo from two hours to 90 minutes. This path connects La Rambleta with the summit.

The permit is valid only for the booked day, the booked time and the people named in the reservation. Anyone still on the path after the 90 minutes have elapsed is in breach of the rules. The resolution does not state which protocol applies in the event of delay, according to Atlántico Hoy.

The rule affects only the final section to the summit. The permit for the approach routes includes neither the summit ascent nor the cable car descent.

Which charges now apply?

The resolution sets charges for the periods from 09:00 to 18:00 on the Telesforo Bravo and Montaña Blanca-La Rambleta trails. The fees themselves are not new. The Cabildo had announced their introduction for 19 January 2026.

For the Telesforo Bravo, access remains free for Tenerife residents and children under 14. Residents of the other Canary Islands pay 6 euros. Visitors from outside the archipelago pay 15 euros.

On the Montaña Blanca-La Rambleta trail, prices vary according to place of residence and day of the week. Tenerife residents pay nothing. Other Canary Islanders pay between 3 and 5 euros, while visitors from outside pay between 6 and 10 euros.

How does the reservation work?

An online reservation is required for the summit ascent. The official guide of the Gobierno de Canarias requires you to check availability and select a date on the Tenerife ON platform. You then complete the online form with your personal details.

The Cabildo had already set up a reservation system for the Montaña Blanca-La Rambleta, Teide-Pico Viejo, Los Regatones Negros and Chafarí trails in January 2025. Since September 2025, the Telesforo Bravo can also be booked through Tenerife ON.

The new resolution brings together the previously scattered rules in one document. It introduces a single reservation system for all five trails and synchronises places, user profiles and times for the Telesforo Bravo and Montaña Blanca-La Rambleta trails.

What quotas are there?

For the Telesforo Bravo, the resolution distributes access in shifts of one and a half hours each. Quotas are provided for the general public, accredited mountain guides, users of the Altavista refuge, people with bivouac overnight stays and members of mountaineering federations.

New is the inclusion of specific places for people with a mountaineering licence. The available time slots for accredited professionals have also been expanded. The resolution also allows the bivouac overnight stay to be requested together with the associated trail permits.

In the event of persistent ice or snow after an initial closure, access remains restricted to alpinists and small guided groups. Anyone arriving with a standard reservation must then show a valid mountaineering federation card.

What penalties apply for breaches?

Anyone found without a proven reservation commits an administrative offence. According to Atlántico Hoy, this can be sanctioned. In serious cases, the costs of a rescue may also apply.

Anyone who holds a permit but fails to use it without justification may be blocked.

On access, the permit must be shown in printed or digital form together with an identity document. Recommended items include long trousers, warm clothing, mountain boots, water, sun protection and a head torch.

What remains open?

The resolution does not give a specific date for when the shortened 90-minute slots come into force. Nor is any transition period for reservations already issued mentioned in the Atlántico Hoy report.

The Boletín Oficial de Canarias (BOC, the official gazette of the Canary Islands) published issue no. 204. In the accessible search data, the specific rule on the new time slots was not initially identifiable.

For visitors from the south of Tenerife, planning remains crucial: anyone wanting to reach the summit should check availability early on Tenerife ON and allow for the 90 minutes on the final section.
