What is showing over the weekend?
The festival runs under the motto “Mundo Monster” and is dedicated to classic horror film monsters. The 24 selected short films will be shown on 23 and 24 October at the Auditorio de Teror.
Screenings run in two sessions on both days: from 17:00 to 18:30 and from 19:00 to 20:30. Short films longer than ten minutes will be shown in these blocks, according to the Ayuntamiento de Teror.
Entry is free. Anyone who wants a guaranteed seat can book through tureservaonline.es, the local council says.
140 short films were submitted for the competition. The jury is made up of actor Ramón Langa, writer and director Yaiza Méndez and director and producer Chedey Reyes.
What is the REC72H competition?
The REC72H competition is the festival’s “star section”, according to the Ayuntamiento de Teror. 275 participants have signed up in categories such as direction, acting, camera, editing, make-up, sound and film music.
Teams have 72 hours to shoot a horror short of no more than three minutes in Teror. The competition starts on 23 October at 17:30 and ends on 26 October at 17:30.
At least 50 percent of the film must be shot at recognisable outdoor locations in the municipality. This requirement is set out in the competition rules, according to the Ayuntamiento.
The competition awards 2,500 euros in prize money and four trophies. A hand-carved stone gargoyle is valued at 800 euros, the council says.
Registration is free. Canarias7 gives 20 October as the registration deadline, while other reports give 26 October at 17:30 as the submission deadline; the official competition rules are the authoritative source.
What else is happening alongside the films?
On 24 October there is an escape event in the historic centre of Teror. Participants solve puzzles and scan QR codes, and no registration is needed, according to the Ayuntamiento.
100 euros is the prize for the winners, with no participation fee. It starts on 24 October from 23:00 (a night-time escape through the historic centre).
The Feria del Terror takes place on 31 October and 1 November in a marquee at Plaza de Sintes, according to the Ayuntamiento. Stalls, books, video games, talks, exhibitions and make-up demonstrations are planned.
The feria opens on Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00 and on Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00. The originally announced dates of 24 and 25 October were moved by the council.
