What changes for visitors coming from the south?
Anyone taking the classic route from Degollada de La Goleta in the south of Gran Canaria must book online in advance. The booking is free, as the official Cabildo page confirms.
Bookings are made through the Reservas Roque Nublo platform. You choose the type of reservation, date, time slot and number of people, then receive confirmation by email.
Anyone arriving at the controlled time without a valid reservation should expect to be turned away. This applies equally to tourists, foreigners and residents not registered locally.
Which times are affected?
According to the Cabildo, the reservation requirement applies daily from 10:00 to 17:00. According to the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the summer period for Roque Nublo (July, August, September) runs from 08:00 to 14:00.
Media reports give different figures: daily from 09:00 to 17:00, sometimes from 10:00 to 17:00. The Cabildo de Gran Canaria had not clarified these contradictions by Saturday 24 October 2026.
Check the current time on the official Cabildo page before setting off. The sources do not provide a reliable comparison figure for a previous month or year.
Who is exempt from the reservation?
Residents of Tejeda and Artenara do not need a reservation for Roque Nublo, according to media reports, but must prove their place of residence.
Anyone walking to Roque Nublo on foot via adjacent hiking trails also does not need a booking, according to background research. Only access via Degollada de La Goleta is controlled.
Also exempt are people with valid permission for scientific, conservation or other expressly authorised activities. Schools either register one group of up to 60 people per day or two groups of up to 30 each.
How do visitors get to the starting point?
The classic ascent begins at the Mirador de La Goleta on the GC-600 road, at kilometre 11.3 between Llanos de la Pez and Ayacata. There and back is around 3.2 kilometres, according to eldiario.es.
There are only a few parking spaces directly at Roque Nublo. According to background research, the Cabildo has set up overflow car parks in Tejeda and Cruz de los Llanos.
From there a Global shuttle runs roughly every 30 minutes, between 9:30 and 18:00. The journey takes around 30 minutes from Tejeda and about 10 from Cruz de los Llanos.
Line 18 takes you from the south of the island to the monument and back three times a day. From Las Palmas there are connections via lines 303 and 305.
If you do not want to wait for the shuttle, you can walk up from Cruz de los Llanos to Degollada de La Goleta in about 50 minutes. Fares match the usual prices of Global's public bus network, including Bonos and Tarjetas.
Why was the scheme introduced?
The Cabildo de Gran Canaria wants to use visitor management to slow path erosion and protect vegetation. Wildlife should also be left in peace, as eldiario.es reports.
Roque Nublo stands in the natural monument of the same name and is one of the Canary Islands' best-known landmarks. Volcanic activity and erosion shaped the rock monolith over millions of years.
Nearby stand further formations such as Roque del Fraile and Roque de La Rana. From the El Tablón summit plateau the view reaches to the Atlantic in clear weather.
What remains open?
The sources do not mention reservation fees or a specific closure. No new deadline linked to the report of 23 October 2026 has been published either.
The main uncertainty is the applicable time window, because the official Cabildo page and media reports differ. The Cabildo de Gran Canaria had not published a single consistent figure by Saturday 24 October 2026.
Check the official Cabildo de Gran Canaria website before travelling. It also carries the latest notes on identity checks and quota availability.
