Which routes does Binter Canarias currently fly?

According to its website, Binter Canarias flies to all eight Canary Islands every day: El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Graciosa, La Palma, Lanzarote and Tenerife. The website states an average of 270 flights per day; other company material gives a higher daily figure.

Binter counts 31 destinations outside the Canary Islands: 21 Spanish airports and 10 international destinations. According to Binter, the Spanish airports include Vigo, A Coruña, Asturias, Santander, San Sebastián, Pamplona, Zaragoza, Valladolid, Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Murcia, Badajoz, Córdoba, Jerez de la Frontera, Granada, Almería, Mallorca, Menorca, Logroño and Vitoria.

In Morocco, Binter currently lists Agadir, Guelmim, El Aaiún and Dakhla. In Mauritania, Binter flies to Nouakchott, and in Senegal to Dakar. In Cape Verde, Sal is the only confirmed destination. Casablanca and Marrakech do not appear in the current destination list.

In Portugal, Binter flies to Madeira (Funchal) and Porto Santo. In the Azores, Ponta Delgada is the confirmed destination. Lisbon and Porto do not appear in the current destination list. According to Binter, the live flight schedule determines which Canary Island is the departure point in each case.

According to press reports and Binter press material, Ponta Delgada is served from Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and Madeira from Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Tenerife Sur. These details are not fully confirmed; the live flight schedule is authoritative.

How does the 75 percent resident discount work?

According to Binter, the resident discount is 75 percent on Canarian inter-island flights and on domestic flights within Spanish territory.

Eligible are people who can prove residence in the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Ceuta or Melilla and who travel between their place of residence and a point within Spanish territory. The journey must begin or end in the respective autonomous community.

According to Binter, eligible are nationals of Spain, the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Non-EU citizens qualify only if their valid Spanish residence card identifies them as family members of an EU citizen, long-term or permanent residents, or if they have asylum or subsidiary protection.

Proof is provided by the certificado de empadronamiento (municipal registration certificate) in the travel model under Annex I of RD 1340/2007, if the electronic check fails, plus a valid DNI or passport. Children under 14 without a DNI only need the empadronamiento certificate.

The passenger must carry their DNI, passport or NIE and, where applicable, the certificate. The passenger is personally liable for false information. Binter does not describe the discount for international routes to Morocco, Madeira, the Azores, Cape Verde, Senegal or Mauritania.

Which fares and baggage rules apply at Binter?

Binter lists four fares: Basic, Plus, FlexiPlus and Premium. According to the fare page, Basic includes 8 kg of hand baggage and 150 BinterMas points on Madrid routes. Plus additionally includes one checked bag up to 23 kg, a standard seat and 300 points.

According to the fare page, FlexiPlus includes another checked bag up to 23 kg, preferred seat, XL seat, changes with conditions, VIP lounge and fast track on domestic flights, preferred check-in and boarding, and 900 points. Premium offers a free adjacent seat, front rows, premium service on board and 1,200 points.

For hand baggage, Binter allows one piece of 8 kg plus personal items. The maximum dimensions are 45 x 35 x 25 cm on ATR flights and 52 x 40 x 25 cm on Embraer flights. On mixed connections, the Embraer size is accepted free of charge; if it does not fit in the ATR, it is handed over at the aircraft steps and returned there.

For checked baggage, a free allowance of 20 kg applies on Canarian inter-island flights, and 23 kg on Madeira-Porto Santo. Domestic and international flights in the Basic fare do not include checked baggage; it costs 25 euros if prepaid more than 3 hours before departure or 40 euros at check-in.

The baggage page and the fare conditions partly contradict each other: the baggage page states 1 piece for FlexiPlus and Premium on Europe and Morocco routes and 2 pieces on other routes, while the fare conditions state 2 pieces. The change fee for Plus is also presented differently: the fare page allows changes before departure without penalty, while the fare conditions state a 40 euro penalty. The fare shown at booking is authoritative.

Check-in, boarding, BinterMas and booking tips

According to Binter, check-in closes 30 minutes before departure on Canarian inter-island flights, Madeira-Porto Santo and Canaries-Madeira. For other domestic and international flights, a deadline of 50 minutes applies, and for flights from Africa 60 minutes.

Where online check-in is not available, Binter asks passengers to be at the desk at least 2 hours before departure. With checked baggage, the desk must still be visited. BinterMas points are credited 48 hours after the flight.

Boarding begins 30 minutes before departure on Canarian inter-island flights, Madeira-Porto Santo and Canaries-Madeira. For other flights from the Canary Islands, a deadline of 50 minutes applies, and for flights from the mainland, Europe or Africa 40 minutes. Identity and resident status are checked at boarding.

According to Binter, the Airpass Explorer costs only 40 euros per flight for passengers travelling to the Canary Islands who want to see more islands, up to 8 sectors when booking. Stopover Discover allows up to 7 days' stay on Gran Canaria or Tenerife and visiting two islands on one trip.

History and fleet of Binter Canarias

According to Binter, the first flight took place on 26 March 1989, then as BinterCanarias, a regional airline owned by Iberia. Flight NT 104 operated from Tenerife Norte to Gran Canaria with 40 passengers on board a CASA CN-235.

In January 1990, the first ATR 72 joined the fleet. In 1999, the fleet comprised 11 aircraft. In 2002, Binter was taken over by a group of Canarian investors. In 2005, international expansion began, including to Marrakech, El Aaiún and Madeira.

In 2015, Binter renewed the fleet with 18 new ATR 72-600. According to Binter, the company has invested a total of 700 million euros in fleet renewal since Canarian ownership. In 2017, three Bombardier CRJ1000 were added, and in 2019 three Embraer E195-E2.

According to Binter, the ATR 72-600 turboprops are suitable for short runways. The E195-E2 has 132 seats in one class, 79 cm seat pitch and a 2+2 layout.

According to company information, Binter opened its first base outside the archipelago in Madrid in 2024 with 16 daily Madrid-Canaries flights. The European Regions Airline Association ERA named Binter Airline of the Year in 2024; according to Binter's awards page, it was the seventh time, while the count in the press kit differs.

Punctuality, safety and open questions

The punctuality figures on Binter's awards page are old and come from the company itself: Flightview named Binter the world's most punctual airline in 2015 with more than 96 percent on-time arrivals. FlightStats named Binter the most punctual airline in Europe and North America in 2009.

No current punctuality figure for 2025 or 2026 was found. Nor is there a verified punctuality rate from OAG, Cirium, Aena, ENAIRE or Binter. These details are not confirmed.

A search of public records, including Aviation Safety Network, the Spanish accident investigation commission CIAIAC and Canarian media RTVC, found no fatal accident involving Binter Canarias. However, there were non-fatal incidents, including a serious incident involving an ATR 72-600 during take-off in Tenerife Norte in 2019, classified by the CIAIAC with 46 people on board.

Further incidents involved false fire alarm activations and burst tyres in Lanzarote. This is not a statistical safety assessment. No IOSA or AESA certificate text was found and is not confirmed.

Could not be confirmed: the exact number of daily inter-island flights, the departure islands of individual routes, the winter flight schedules 2026/27, the validity and thresholds of BinterMas points, and the current frequencies to Madeira, the Azores and Africa.
