When and where does the Candelaria mountain race take place?

The race starts at 10:00 on Saturday 21 November 2026, according to the published event data. It is the XIII edition, run by the club CD Vallivana.

According to that data, the start is in Igueste de Candelaria and the finish at La Mesa. The address given is Plaza El Lagar, 38530 Candelaria, but no source says whether it is the meeting point or the registration desk.

In 2025 the field set off at 10:00 from Plaza Dimas Coello in Igueste, the Ayuntamiento (town council) said. That fits the 2026 start point but does not confirm it.

We found no official 2026 notice from the club or the council. All details for this year's race come from event listings and are not officially confirmed.

What applies to spectators, travel and parking?

No information on spectator admission is available. The event listings do not mention a spectator ticket anywhere.

We found nothing on travel, parking, road closures or bus services. Anyone coming from the south should ask CD Vallivana or the sports department of Candelaria council beforehand.

The sources give no timetable for the children's races. There is also no programme beyond the 10:00 start.

According to the event data, the race follows marked paths rather than a lap course in town. Spectators should expect routes that nobody has yet described in detail.

How long is the course, and what does it cost to enter?

The vertical course measures about 3.9 kilometres on marked paths, according to the event data. A refreshment point waits at the finish.

None of the sources we found gives the elevation gain. The exact route is not published either.

The standard entry fee is 18 euros, according to the race details. Members of a mountain-sports or athletics federation and people with disabilities pay 15 euros.

Residents registered in Candelaria (empadronados) and blood donors pay 12 euros. The children's races are listed at 0 euros, with places limited.

The details require certain equipment for the vertical course but do not say which. A time limit or a cap on entrants is not documented either.

Can you still register?

According to a search snippet, online registration ran from 21 June to 1 November 2026, so it has been closed for seven days.

The event listings give no deadline, and registration runs through the organiser. We could not establish whether late entries or free places exist.

Anyone wanting to join at short notice should ask CD Vallivana directly. That applies to parents too, as places in the children's races are limited, according to the details.

What happened at the 2025 edition?

On 17 March 2025 the council reported the success of the XII Subida Vertical a la Mesa de Candelaria, held on Saturday 15 March. Mayor Mari Brito spoke of about a hundred participants.

There were two events: the vertical course for experienced mountain runners and children's races. Registration for children was free in 2025, according to the council.

Among the men, the council named Raúl Díaz Perdomo, Nacor Chinea Cruz and Pablo Matías González on the podium. Among the women they were Amada de Jesús Sánchez Rivero, Libertad Rivero Corbacho and Ane Ormaetxea, and the text gives no times.

Sports councillor (concejal de Deportes) Manuel González said the race drew a big response and had “already become a classic”. The council also thanked the club, the volunteers and the security service.

What is still open before 21 November?

We found no official notice with rules, programme or race-pack collection. Elevation gain, number of entrants and compulsory equipment also remain open.

No source explains why the XIII edition runs in November when the XII was held in March 2025. According to a search snippet, the council and the Federación Tinerfeña de Montañismo support the race, but that has not been checked.

Visitors to the south of Tenerife should note Saturday 21 November in their diary. Also listed in the municipality, according to trainerday.com, is the San Silvestre Candelaria on 26 December 2026, a 5-kilometre road race.
