What can visitors expect on Friday 6 November?
The fair opens on Friday 6 November at 17:00 on the Plaza Matías Padrón in El Pinar. El Hierro Hoy expects the Canary government’s agriculture minister, Narvay Quintero, and El Pinar’s tourism councillor, Magaly González, at the opening.
A demonstration of the Silbo herreño, the whistled language of El Hierro, follows. Then Brian Rodríguez gives a talk with a cooking demonstration, “Carne de cabra. Nuestro tesoro gastronómico”, which presents goat meat as a treasure of island cooking.
Rodríguez will also show how island cooks make hamburgers, the “hamburguesas herreñas”. A DJ session by DJ Monterreina ends the evening, but the report gave no closing time for Friday.
What does Saturday 7 November offer?
On Saturday 7 November the fair opens at 12:00 and is due to close at 00:30. According to El Hierro Hoy, the event therefore runs for a good twelve hours.
During the day the Pastelería Zulay (pastry shop) leads workshops on cheesecakes and El Hierro pastries. The Denominación de Origen de El Hierro, the designation of origin for the island’s wine, hosts a tasting of Canarian wines.
The wines come with island-style skewers, the “brochetas herreñas”. Places at some activities are limited, so anyone who wants to try them should ask beforehand.
In the evening the band Havana 500 plays, followed by sets from DJs Jishar, Wes and Rubén Galván. The organiser has not published exact times for individual items.
How much does the fair cost, and how do I register?
El Hierro Hoy gives no admission price, and none for tapas or wine either. It is not yet clear whether visitors pay per tapa or buy vouchers.
According to the organiser, some activities need advance registration and places are limited. Information is available at eventoselhierro@gmail.com.
The report does not say which activities require registration, and it gives no deadline. Anyone who wants to join a workshop or the wine tasting should email before travelling.
There is no information on getting there, parking or possible road closures around the plaza. The Ayuntamiento de El Pinar, the town council, can answer such questions.
Who organises the tapas fair, and what is its aim?
The Gobierno de Canarias (Canary government) organises the fair through its Dinamiza Rural programme and the public company Gestión del Medio Rural de Canarias, or GMR Canarias. The Ayuntamiento de El Pinar, Mercahierro and Pescarestinga also take part, and none of the sources gave a budget.
According to El Hierro Hoy, the fair aims to promote the island’s food and support local producers and restaurateurs. It should also boost the municipality’s economy and tourism.
Mayor Juan Miguel Padrón Brito invited locals and visitors to the event. Magaly González sees the fair as a chance to showcase products from El Hierro and the Canaries.
Jaisan Morales, El Pinar’s councillor for the primary sector, told El Hierro Hoy that the fair also honours the work of restaurateurs. According to a Canary government report, Dinamiza Rural has already backed several fairs on the island, including a pineapple fair in La Frontera.
How big was the tapas fair in Valverde in 2024?
In 2024 the “Sabores de El Hierro” fair took place on 5 and 6 October in Valverde, on the Plaza de Santiago de la Villa. According to Canarias Noticias, the Ayuntamiento de Valverde and the Canary government organised it through GMR Canarias.
Back then 32 restaurants from the island took part, whereas in 2026 there are six from El Pinar. There is no evidence why the event has shrunk.
A tapa cost three euros in 2024. No price has been given for 2026, so a comparison is not possible.
The 2024 edition focused on ten products, including figs, pineapple, cheese, honey, lamb and goat. It also offered tastings, cooking demonstrations, family workshops and a prize draw for a Binter flight, and visitors’ votes chose the best restaurant.
What is known about El Pinar and what happens next?
According to Wikipedia, El Pinar has been a municipality in its own right since 15 September 2007, when it split from La Frontera. Wikipedia gives its population on 1 January 2025 as 2,042.
RTVC reports that the same Plaza Matías Padrón hosted the third Feria del Cordero en Familia, a lamb fair, in November 2025. It began at 12:00 and was organised by the association of breeders of the Canarian sheep breed, the Canary government and the municipalities of Valverde and El Pinar.
The names of the six restaurants, the prices, the exact schedule and the registration deadline remain unknown. Our research found no announcement of its own from the Cabildo (island government) or the municipality.
The fair starts on Friday 6 November at 17:00. The main day follows on Saturday 7 November from 12:00.
