What do visitors need to know about Piedra Hincada?

Visitors to Piedra Hincada pay nothing. According to the published programme, entry to every event is open and free, and the fiestas start on 24 November and end on 30 November 2026.

The village lies in the south of Fuerteventura and belongs to the municipality of Tuineje. You reach it on the FV-2 road from Tuineje, and the programme names no bus service or parking plan.

When and where each event takes place is not yet settled. Nothing has been published on this.

The busiest day is likely to be 30 November, when the Mass, procession and romería (a traditional pilgrimage festival) fall together. Tight access and parking on that day is an assumption, not a statement from the council.

What is on the programme?

A solemn Mass and a procession in honour of the patron saint form the centre of the fiestas. The programme also lists children’s games, food gatherings and evening dances known as verbenas.

According to the programme on festivalesdeespana.com, the Fogalera, the communal bonfire, burns on the evening before the feast day. Roast chestnuts and new wine are served on 29 and 30 November.

On 30 November, for the Romería-Ofrenda, folklore groups parade through the village with decorated carts. They bring gifts from the region, alongside the Mass and procession announced for that day.

Gofio (toasted grain flour), Majorero cheese, local wine and wrinkled potatoes are among the usual gifts, says the programme. Apart from 30 November, no one has confirmed which event falls on which day.

What is San Andrés day in the Canary Islands?

San Andrés, Saint Andrew, marks the symbolic start of winter in the Canary Islands. People celebrate on 30 November, the day the new wine is tapped.

Two customs shape the day: roast chestnuts and the tasting of the year’s wine. Both belong to the Fogalera, which burns in the village square on Fuerteventura.

Villagers sing and dance around the fire to parrandas, a kind of folk music played in a circle. In Piedra Hincada and Tetir, the night of 29 to 30 November is the one country people wait for most.

How big is the fiesta, and what about Tetir?

Piedra Hincada is a small settlement in the municipality of Tuineje, historically tied to goat farming and agriculture. Its fiesta is seen as smaller than the one in neighbouring Tetir, but it is just as rooted in local tradition.

Tetir belongs to the municipality of Puerto del Rosario. According to the programme, it celebrates from 27 November to 3 December 2026, with extras such as the Feria Tetir Inspira and a chestnut roast with live music.

The dates overlap, so you can see both fiestas between 27 and 30 November. Tetir’s romería is also announced for 30 November.

According to the programme, Tetir lies on the FV-10. It is 8 kilometres from the centre of Puerto del Rosario.

What is still open until publication?

Times and venues for the individual events are still missing.

There is also no information on parking, shuttle buses or road closures. The source names no mayor, fiesta councillor or fiesta committee.

If you plan to come on 30 November, ask Tuineje town council directly where needed.
