When is what in Teguise and Costa Teguise?
Saborea Lanzarote is a wine and food festival run by the Cabildo (the island government). It takes place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November 2026 in the historic centre of the Villa de Teguise, the former island capital.
The Lanzarote International Marathon starts five days later and runs from 3 to 5 December 2026. The main race begins on Saturday 5 December outside the HD Beach Resort in Costa Teguise.
The Christmas market in Teguise old town also opens on 3 December and runs until 8 December. The Ayuntamiento (town council) promotes the long December weekend, so the marathon and the market overlap.
What does Saborea cost, and how do I get to Teguise?
Entry to the festival site is free, according to the festival listing festivalesdeespana.com. Visitors pay for food and wine tastings with tickets sold at the stalls.
The listing gives no ticket prices or opening times, and the Cabildo has not confirmed them. If you plan to go, check the festival website, festivalsaborealanzarote.com, beforehand.
The listing puts Teguise 12 kilometres north of Arrecife on the LZ-10 road. It mentions the island’s buses (guaguas) and a car park on the edge of the town, from where visitors walk in.
The programme includes tastings of D.O. Lanzarote wines (a protected designation of origin), cooking shows by local chefs and workshops on mojo, the Canarian sauce. There will also be produce markets and music in the square, but no daily schedule for 2026 exists yet.
How does the marathon on 5 December work?
Runners register online at lanzaroteinternationalmarathon.com, and registration closes on 30 November 2026. The entry fee is not refunded, but runners can change their distance in the “Runners Zone” using their email address and a confirmation code.
The events are the marathon, the half marathon, 10 kilometres and a 5-kilometre run called the “Santa Claus Race”. Which race runs on which day is not settled, and our research could not confirm any fees.
The marathon starts outside the HD Beach Resort in Costa Teguise, and each runner arranges their own journey there. A search result from the organiser gives a start time of 8:00, but the FAQ page itself contains no time.
The half marathon starts on the Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen, and the 10 kilometres on the Rumbla Medular near Arrecife. A shuttle leaves for both starts from the Expo in Costa Teguise, and runners must book a seat in advance.
Runners collect their number at the Expo at Avenida Islas Canarias 18 in Costa Teguise, and photo ID is required. According to the organiser, collection is possible on race morning from 6:30 to 7:30, but only with advance registration.
What does the Teguise Christmas market offer?
The market opens from 3 to 8 December 2026, daily from 11:00 to 21:30, as La Voz de Lanzarote reports. On Sunday 6 December it opens as early as 10:00.
The stalls stand on the Plaza de la Constitución, the Plaza Clavijo y Fajardo and the Plaza Maciot de Bethencourt. All three squares lie in the historic centre.
The council is awarding 35 stalls: eight for crafts, 17 for Christmas products and gifts, and ten for food. Five mobile stands and four food trucks may join the food stalls.
No supporting programme for 2026 has been published. Last year, according to La Voz de Lanzarote, there was a Christmas train and a Santa Claus house in the Palacio Spínola, but it is unclear whether they will return.
What is still open, and what should I bear in mind?
For Saborea, opening times, programme details and ticket prices are missing. For the marathon, fees, the timetable of the shorter races and possible road closures are not confirmed.
According to the organiser, the course is partly closed to traffic and marked with kilometre signs. Some sections stay open to pedestrians, and dogs and pushchairs are not allowed in the race.
Saborea rests on an agreement that the Cabildo, SPEL–Turismo Lanzarote and EPEL–CACT signed on 24 November 2025. Each party pays for its own measures, and a monitoring committee oversees the delivery.
Cabildo president Oswaldo Betancort said at the signing that last year’s edition had an economic impact of 12 million euros. The report gave no comparison figure and no independent check.
The next fixed date is 28 November, followed by the marathon registration deadline on 30 November. If you plan to visit the race or the market, check times and prices on the organisers’ websites shortly beforehand.
