When and where does Tetir celebrate San Andrés?

Tetir celebrates for a full week, from 27 November to 3 December 2026, according to the events portal festivalesdeespana.com. The listing was updated on 8 September 2026, but the portal is not the organiser.

The historic village lies in the centre-north of Fuerteventura and belongs to the municipality of Puerto del Rosario. The portal names only squares, chapels and rural areas of the village as venues.

There is no exact address or meeting point yet. Anyone who wants to see a particular event should wait for the official programme.

Piedra Hincada, in the municipality of Tuineje, also celebrates San Andrés, from 24 to 30 November. The portal places that village in the south of the island, and it runs its own festival separately.

What is on the programme?

The high point is 30 November, the feast day of the apostle San Andrés, when the portal says Tetir plans a solemn Mass with a procession. The same day it lists a romería-ofrenda, a pilgrimage with offerings, featuring folk groups and decorated carts.

Roast chestnuts and local wine are planned for 29 and 30 November. The Fogalera, the shared village bonfire, belongs to this and counts as the highlight of the village calendar on the night of 29 to 30 November.

A food and culture fair called Tetir Inspira rounds off the festival. According to the portal, local producers and craftspeople meet visitors there, with tastings, workshops and games for children.

At the Casas abiertas (open houses), residents open their homes so young and old can talk, and older villagers have their own gatherings. Music evenings are due to run until the first weekend of December, which means 5 and 6 December.

What does a visit cost and how do you get there?

Entry is free at all events, according to festivalesdeespana.com. The portal does not say what food and wine cost.

The portal puts Tetir 8 kilometres from the centre of Puerto del Rosario, on the FV-10 road. No official source has confirmed this figure so far.

There is no information on parking, bus routes or road closures on the feast day. Anyone planning to drive to the Fogalera in the evening should ask the town hall about the journey there and back beforehand.

Visitors from the south drive towards the middle of the island and then north. None of the sources says how long that takes.

On which day does the romería take place?

Two sources give two different dates. According to RTVC, the Canarian public broadcaster, the Romería de la Vega de Tetir is held on the first Sunday in December, and it reported on the 23rd edition on 3 December 2023.

The first Sunday in December 2026 is 6 December, after the stated festival week ends. The portal, by contrast, puts the romería on 30 November.

Which date is correct has not been confirmed. The Puerto del Rosario town hall has published nothing on it that our research could find.

The numbering is also open: the portal speaks of more than 23 years of tradition for 2026, while RTVC counted the 23rd year back in 2023. There is no official number for this year’s edition.

Where does the tradition come from?

According to RTVC, villagers celebrated all day in 2023 in honour of San Andrés. The broadcaster spoke of “23 years of tradition that stays alive”.

The faithful ask the saint for rain, and his statue then returns to the church of Santo Domingo. Rain fell on the island in 2023, which RTVC says the participants took as a good sign.

That same year the Agrupación Folclórica de Tetir marked its 50th anniversary. The portal adds that roasting chestnuts and tasting the new wine are also part of the Día de San Andrés in the Canary Islands.

The village is older than the present administrative seat, which it once governed. The settlement grew up in the last third of the 18th century, and the church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán became a parish in 1778, according to the site hispanopedia.

Tetir had 1,126 residents in 2022, according to the Spanish statistics office INE, as quoted by hispanopedia. The same site says it lost importance when the island’s capital moved, and in 1926 it was merged with Puerto del Rosario.

When will the official programme appear?

From mid-November, programmes should appear on transparencia.puertodelrosario.org, according to festivalesdeespana.com. The portal also lists tuineje.es, but that site belongs to the Tuineje council and concerns Piedra Hincada.

Times, the romería meeting point and traffic advice have not been published so far. Details on costs and on who organises the San Andrés fiestas are also missing.

The portal lists the separate patron saint festivities of Santo Domingo de Guzmán in Tetir from 26 July to 4 August. The Asociación de Vecinos Vega de Tetir San Andrés organises them with support from the Ayuntamiento (town hall) of Puerto del Rosario.
