What does the craft fair in San Sebastián de La Gomera offer?
Nearly 70 stalls, according to the Cabildo de La Gomera (island government), will line the Plaza de Las Américas in the island capital, San Sebastián de La Gomera. Of these, 54 belong to craftspeople from La Gomera, La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
The Feria Insular de Artesanía starts on Friday 6 November 2026 and ends on Sunday 8 November. Visitors can buy souvenirs and local products straight from the makers.
The Cabildo calls it the island’s biggest craft event, meant to show off traditional trades. It has not listed which products will be on sale, and the announcement gives no prices.
What should visitors know before they travel?
By Wednesday 4 November, the Cabildo had not published opening hours for 2026. The announcement also says nothing about entry, so it is unconfirmed whether the fair is free.
There is no word on parking, road closures or bus timetables around the Plaza de Las Américas either. Anyone coming from the south of the island should allow some extra time.
San Sebastián de La Gomera is the island’s main port, with Fred. Olsen and Armas ferries to Tenerife. We have not checked timetables, so anyone coming by ferry should look at the shipping lines first.
Updates are likely to appear on lagomera.es and lagomera.travel. A phone call or a look at the Cabildo’s channels is the quickest way to confirm the times.
What was last year’s fair like?
The 2025 fair, the ninth, ran from 7 to 9 November in the same place. The organisers reported 63 exhibitors, namely 50 craftspeople and 13 food producers.
Of the 50 craftspeople, 27 came from La Gomera and 23 from Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria. The “nearly 70 stalls” for 2026 cannot be compared directly, because stalls and participants are not necessarily counted the same way.
In 2025 the fair opened on Saturday at 10:00 and closed at 21:00. On Sunday it ran from 10:00 to 17:00, and there are no times for Friday.
Saturday’s programme began with a radio broadcast at 11:00, followed by the Coros y Danzas de La Gomera (choirs and dance group) at 12:00. It ended with a tasting of “Alimentos de La Gomera” products at 18:00.
Sunday brought the Hijos del Silbo at 13:00 and the official close at 17:00. The Cabildo has not said whether the 2026 fair will follow a similar pattern.
Workshops, music and tastings were part of 2025. They are not confirmed for 2026.
Who organises the fair and who can exhibit?
The Cabildo de La Gomera organises the fair under its president, Casimiro Curbelo. The island councillor for crafts, Cristina Ventura, is responsible for it.
In 2025 the island’s municipalities, the “Alimentos de La Gomera” brand and the biosphere reserve took part. The announcement does not say whether these partners are back in 2026.
Anyone who wants to exhibit at Cabildo fairs needs the craftsperson’s card (carné de artesano). With the card, holders can also apply for public grants.
The Cabildo tests applicants on theory and practice. In early 2023 more than 150 craftspeople held the card, and 23 applicants sat that round, covering crochet, basketry, soap-making, macramé, ironwork and leather goods.
Curbelo said that backing the crafts sector also means “supporting the local economy”. Ventura wants the public to learn about the stories and dedication behind each piece.
What is still unknown and what comes next?
Opening hours, entry and the supporting programme for 2026 are all open. The number of food producers, a budget and a stall fee are missing too.
The Cabildo published its announcement on Sunday 1 November 2026, only days before the start. Programme additions are therefore possible until Friday.
Visitors should not confuse the fair with smaller events on the island. Vallehermoso held its own Feria Insular de Artesanía y Gastronomía in 2025, and Hermigua held a crafts fair in 2024.
The fair in San Sebastián de La Gomera ends on Sunday 8 November 2026. Anyone coming at the weekend can reach the Plaza de Las Américas on all three days.
