What do the parties promise?

Coalición Canaria (CC) presented its election programme on 23 October 2026 in Argana Baja on Lanzarote. Fernando Clavijo and Teodoro Sosa set out the proposals for Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

The centrepiece: the ferry between Caleta de Sebo and Órzola would cost nothing for residents of La Graciosa. The parties want to put residents' daily journeys on the same footing as free public land transport on the other Canary Islands.

La Graciosa is administratively part of the Ayuntamiento de Teguise. The ferry to Lanzarote is the regular maritime link for residents.

They need it for government offices, doctors, schools and shopping that do not exist on La Graciosa. The programme provides for free maritime transport for residents of La Graciosa.

What applies to passengers today?

Anyone registered on La Graciosa currently pays 75% less for the ferry between Caleta de Sebo and Órzola.

Passengers prove their residence at ferry company ticket offices with a registration certificate from the Ayuntamiento. The certificate is valid for six months from the date of issue.

The election promise names no new price rule for holidaymakers and visitors without residence on La Graciosa. They continue to pay the standard fare.

What has the support cost so far?

A total of €32,200,000.00 is available in the 2026 budget year for refunding discounts to ferry companies. The amount can be increased, according to the Gobierno de Canarias.

In the fourth quarter of 2020 the Canary Islands government paid €176,130 to three companies for resident discounts on routes from Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Graciosa. The Gobierno de Canarias covered 25% and the state 50% of the total discount.

In that quarter 55,353 resident journeys were counted on these links. On the Órzola–Caleta de Sebo route, 34,627 journeys were made with Líneas Marítimas Romero and 15,795 with Graciosamar.

These figures are a single value from 2020. The sources provide no continuous series for recent years and no current comparison with other islands.

What is still open?

The candidacy has not yet said how much introducing the free ferry would cost. Which administration would provide the funding and how the new system would work also remain open.

There is no published amount, no start date, no application process and no deadline for the promised full free travel. The ferry companies involved and whether outward and return journeys would be covered equally are also unclear.

A permanent free ferry would require a change to the current support system and secure funding in the budget. An election promise alone changes neither fares nor binds the ferry companies.

The official documentation so far confirms neither the exact text of the announcement nor its timetable or mechanism. Whether all journeys and all residents would be covered also remains unanswered.

What happens next?

The next binding date is the general election on Sunday, 29 November 2026. The campaign runs from 13 November at 00:00 to 27 November 2026 at 24:00.

Only after an election win and later political and legal implementation could the price change for residents. Until then the existing 75% discount and the six-month residence certificate remain in force.

Teodoro Sosa leads the Congreso candidacy for the province of Las Palmas. María Fernández holds second place and Daisy Villalba leads the Senate list for Lanzarote.

For readers on Lanzarote, Fuerteventura or the other Canary Islands, the promise changes nothing. Anyone travelling to La Graciosa continues to pay the standard fare.
