What is closed in Tacoronte on Sunday?
Four places stay shut on Sunday 8 November, the Ayuntamiento (town council) of Tacoronte has decided. They are the Mercadillo del Agricultor (farmers' market), the municipal cemetery, the Mercado Municipal La Estación and the reading rooms of the town library.
The cultural programme is off as well. The Sunday programme of the sixth Festival de Novela Histórica Ciudad de Tacoronte (historical novel festival) is cancelled, and so is the play at the Auditorio Capitol.
The play belongs to the Jornadas de Autocuidado y Buen Trato, run by the council's equality department. In all, the council cancels every planned activity on Sunday, indoors and outdoors.
The council cites the emergency plan of the island government (Cabildo de Tenerife), known as PEIN. It also wants to keep residents' car journeys off the roads as far as possible.
What should market visitors do now?
The farmers' market does not open on Sunday, and the council names no replacement on the same day. Visitors from the southern resorts should scrap the trip, since the council wants fewer car journeys.
Saturday 7 November is the open question. The council does not say whether the market opens then, as its emergency plan only starts at 21:00.
Opening hours differ between listings. Two unofficial online directories give 08:00 to 14:00 and 09:00 to 14:00 respectively, for Saturday and Sunday.
One directory lists the number 922 56 38 05 for the market, which the council does not confirm. The council's press office answers questions on 922 561 350 or at prensa@aytotacoronte.org.
What applies to beaches, pools and playgrounds?
On Sunday nobody may enter or stay on beaches, swimming pools or other areas near the sea in Tacoronte. The same goes for playgrounds and municipal green spaces.
The council's statement names no penalties or fines. Prices, euro amounts and registration deadlines do not appear in it either.
The council works with the Policía Local (local police). Protección Civil (civil protection) and the Sierra Bravo response group support it.
The operation stays active for as long as the storm lasts. The council asks residents to take “the utmost caution”.
Why does the council close before the storm arrives?
The municipal emergency plan (PEMU) applies in Tacoronte from Saturday 7 November at 21:00. The council has set it to alert level (Alerta) for rain and wind.
It speaks of a strong front with heavy rain. By its figures, gusts could exceed 90 kilometres per hour.
In March 2026, Santa Cruz activated its emergency plan for Storm Therese and closed public outdoor facilities. The state weather service AEMET had issued a special warning for all the Canary Islands, and warnings for Tenerife rose to orange.
During Storm Claudia in November 2025, island and town authorities closed roads, hiking trails, parks and sports and cultural venues because of landslide risk. Closures on warning days are therefore nothing unusual on Tenerife.
What is still unknown?
The council has not said when everything reopens, and it names no reopening date. It will update its advice once the storm's course becomes clearer.
There is no word yet on Monday 9 November or on possible school closures. Research for this article also found no official AEMET warning levels for Tenerife on 8 November.
Nobody has yet said which level of the island plan PEIN applies on Sunday. The name Bruna so far comes only from the council's statement.
Three sources remain reliable: the AEMET warnings, the 112 Canarias emergency and information service, and the advice of the Ayuntamiento de Tacoronte. Anyone wanting certainty before a trip should check there first.
What is the Mercadillo del Agricultor in Tacoronte?
At the Mercadillo del Agricultor, farmers sell vegetables, fruit, cheese, honey, pastries and wine from small family wineries directly. According to one directory, it lies in the San Juan district, on the Carretera Tacoronte–Tejina at kilometre 3.5.
That directory gives 1980 as the year of the first market. By car, you reach the market via the TF-13 road, and there is parking nearby.
Tacoronte is a municipality in the north-east of Tenerife. Its market, the Mercadillo del Agricultor, sits in the San Juan district.
